USB MIDI keyboard into Alesis io Dock DIN ports

I recall reading about how a forum user hacked his Alesis io Dock to allow it to receive USB MIDI data.

I was wondering if it is possible to use a powered USB hub to bridge from a (flat) USB out from the CME Xkey to a USB to MIDI DIN converter cable (which I own) to the Alesis IO dock? This would be much easier for me than opening up and hacking the Alesis.

  • No, sorry. I wish it was that easy. untergeek explains why in this video around the 50 seconds mark.

    Here is his documentation

  • Thank you. I asked Untergeek this question, but do you know if a PC can serve as a MIDI bridge? That is, connect the CME Xkey to the PC via one A-type connector, and connect the PC to Alesis using a USB to MIDI cable like this?

If not, I would probably just buy a cheap MIDI keyboard with DIN outputs. I just want to do some simple keyboard entry without pulling out the iPad from the dock.

    Thanks again.

  • Any ideas would still be appreciated. But if this is not possible, it just occurred to me that connecting the Xkey to an iPhone, and running MIDI over Bluetooth will do the trick.
