I have it, I like it. Need more kits or import them. Fast for sketching, great for import MIDI drum tracks (lot of free stuff out there). Not true velocity, but you can accent, simulate roll, flam, ghost notes...To me, it worth the price but, you know, I'm one of those frustrated drummers...
Yes - have it like it and use it. Great for scoring the drum patterns with with the accents as @fjcblanco said. While there is a need for more variety of kits, there is however a good variety within the supplied kit and the samples are very acceptable IMO.
It says it has midi out so if I don't want to use the built in samples, I could use the drumkits from Cubasis right? Since the update Cubasis drum kits are so huge and sound great. Would I be able to do this?
It's a great app for thinking like a drummer, which makes sense when you are focused on scoring (real world) drum tracks. The sounds themselves are serviceable, but it's easy enough to export MIDI to another app.
DrumStudio is an oldie but a goodie. Despite its age, it still does some cool things that are relatively unique. For example - there's a feature where you can cut and paste drum tablature from the internet (via email) and it will import it as a full drum part. It's a little clunky and doesn't always line up perfectly, but pretty amazing they even tried that.
The included sounds are decent. I found it a little touchy to program, BUT it does have some great variety of hits, so it remains relatively simple while offering more variety than an on/off "snare" or "tom" sound.
