Help: Line6 Midi Mobilizer II / Midi In --> Midi out

Hi, I hope you could help me with the following problem:

I use iPG-800 app to tweak the parameters on my Alpha Juno synth and it works brilliantly. While the Alpha Juno doesn't have ARP/SEQ functionality, I've used other synths/MPC to play Midi ARPs/SEQs and it also works well.

BUT. I'd like to use iPG-800 to tweak the sound while an ARP/SEQ from another synth is playing Alpha Juno via Midi. And that's the problem. The Midi in data doesn't go thru to Midi out. Is there a way to fix this? Do I need a Midi merger app?

I've hooked up: MicroKORG: Midi out (sends Midi ARP) --> Midi Mobilizer II: Midi In --> iPad: iPG-800 app --> Midi Mobilizer II: Midi Out --> Alpha Juno: Midi in

I got this to work with Little Midi Machine app; I sent Midi SEQ from LMM app and simultaneously tweaked Alpha Juno's sound with iPG-800. It was a lot of fun, but I'd like to extend this to work with external Midi devices also.

Thanks a lot for helping!

  • Yes, you're right. As you have seen, Midi information arriving at the input does not get routed automatically to the output....which is why in the hardware world devices with midi thru are so handy to merge midi events.

This should sort out your midi routing via the iPad though

  • Hi @tsuuk, which DAW are you using? As this should be the master clock for all other devices to sync from.

I would use the MicroKorg as a master keyboard - Midi out to midi in on iPad - Midi out of iPad to midi in on MicroKorg - then Midi thru/out of Korg to the Juno midi in. Set your pg editor to the same midi channel as the Juno.

Thanks for the reply @zeropoint ! Maybe I'll need to purchase MidiBridge.

  • Hi @RUncELL, now I've been playing with only hardware - so no DAW. But I use Logic when I record. I'll definitely have to try this setup you suggested! :)

Alpha Juno has this great feature that it sends out all midi CC's when changing a preset. Se when Juno's midi out is connected to iPad's midi in the parameters in iPG-800 app update to correct values automatically. For this to also work in the future it'd need to bee something like this:
MicroKorg --> iPad (MidiBridge merging midi notes from MicroKorg with iPG-800's data) --> Alpha Juno --> MicroKorg...

  • Yes, if you want to record the midi cc's from the Juno you have to route the Midi out back to the ipad.. Like suggested a midi merge box could help if you want to record cc's from the Korg as well. But if you're only using the arp on the Korg, then that can be triggered using Midi clock and the Juno could be first in the chain (master keyboard) therefore plug Mobilizer midi out to Juno Midi in.. Juno midi out to Mobilizer midi in.. Juno midi out2 (sometimes labeled thru) to Korg midi in.

I also have an Alpha Juno 2 and 106. And although I have tried recording cc's I found that some worked and some didn't.. But this was with an Atari, many moons ago.. Good luck
