Mini -> Mini 2 upgrade

edited January 2016 in General App Discussion

Anyone with opinions on a $300 price for an iPad mini2 in perfect condition with box and accessories and a nice case?
Can this be had for less somewhere or should I go for it?

What did you get your iPad for? Used/new? Is that a fun idea posting our deals?

  • You don't mention whether it's used (I assume it is) and how many GB - 16? 32?

Whenever I come to ask myself a similar question (...is this a good deal?) ... I quickly check out the item on ebay and/or kijiji. So a quick check on my local kijiji and I found 3 ipad mini2's for sale - one of them was mint condition: two priced at $280 & one for $270. (* These are Canadian dollars - so that works out to be about $200 US)

OR, BestBuy has them brand new (16GB) right now for $319 Cdn... so about $230 US)

So I would say, if it's used ipad and only 16GB then $300 is a little on the high end.

Oh yeah it was 32gb. Used but in perfect condition. I bought it. I was just a bit panicked not sure if I should or not. I think I did the right thing. Maybe could have got one for a few dollars less but with the case and a trustworthy guy I went for it.
So similar to my 1st gen though. The screen is hard to distinguish from a distance.
Hopefully the performance jump is noticeable. Will test with audulus, audiobus, tonestack to start.
    Thanks.

Yes, the upgrade will provide you a huge performance boost over the 1st gen. Outwardly, its the same size, just a vastly improved screen and very big improvement on all the internal specs. You'll be able to do a lot more simultaneously at lower frame rates in Audiobus. enjoy it!

I just sold my 64GB mini 2 for $280 on eBay in November, near perfect condition. Maybe I didn't get the best sale price... I'm not too worried. It allowed me to pick up a Air 2 for net upgrade cost of $130 on a Black Friday deal after some gift card and iPhone shenanigans.

I'm in Canada so those were all in Canadian dollars. I would have bought yours Hmtx if those are CAD.
I did see someone selling a 64gb for $350 cad but didn't bother. I could regret that but I only did this because it won't end up costing too much after I sell mine.

  • ah yes i'm talking USD. Sounds like you did alright for $300 CAD for the 32GB model.

  • 7-9 hours to fully charge an iPad mini 2?
I hope there is something wrong with my iPad.

  • That doesn't sound right. I can charge mine from ~20% to 100% in 3-4 hours.

  • Well I did drain it to 0% and am reading that it can take that long normally, but it is crawling now from 93% to 94%...
I was out all day and was sure I was going to see 100%
That's real crap if I bought this "perfect" condition iPad and have a battery problem. Won't jump to conclusions and will look in to it first. This is what is scary about buying used iPads. How would I even check this when buying?

  • I rarely let mine go that low, and when I have, I charge it over night, so that might be normal.

Yeah just though I'd give it a fresh cycle. It's still going painfully slow this last 10% though, so I may have a problem. (Using a 10w charger)

I don't find the retina screen on the mini that impressive in comparison to the non retina mini1. Improvement is barely noticeable at a reasonable distance.

If it wasn't for the few music apps I'll be able to make better use of I'd say this upgrade is not recommended.

  • I'm using a 12W charger, so that may account for some difference.

I can't hardly remember comparing graphics between my mini and mini2, so I can't comment on that, but the speed increase was very noticeable to me. Plus I have Roland's SoundCanvas app, which won't even run on my iPad4, much less a gen I mini.

ha. Now I'm finding my lightning to usb cable will not work. This is because of iOS9 I guess(was on the beautiful 8.3 previously).
Along with no volume bar after Smart Cover open and no keyboard highlight with reduce transparency enabled makes me...not happy.

(In apple's defence my cable is not an apple cable) or maybe I have a problem with my lightning port causing all these problems?

  • I've not heard of any problems with that cable (assuming it's the one that came with the mini2) working differently across iOS versions.

Get another cable yours has slack.
Don't buy the cheap ones ;)

  • I missed that your cable isn't an Apple cable. That would be the primary suspect.

Oh, i'm talking about a usb female to lightning for use with my apogee jam. not the charge cable which is fine. It's a camera adapter I guess.
So it should be unrelated to the charging issue.

These are $35+ from apple? Now I want to sell everything and forget it. :(

I bet it's the bad cable, no wonder it takes forever to charge if it loses contact every now and then
To save energy just turn down the screen brightness, I m on 1/2 the screen brightness...

  • Look for help at apogee
I can't imagine apogee not working
    Did u reboot?
Hold home and the sleep button for 10 sec ...

I tried rebooting. It's definitely the camera connection cable I bought for $5 a year ago. It works with my old ipad and 8.3 but not with the new ipad on 9.2.

Apogee has their cables for $35 as well.
