I see why link is great (but alas limited it's application, due to lack of song position) but I don't get the MIDI sync hate. It's rather straight forward and has worked great for decades. Maybe it's just been poorly implemented or not well supported on iOS?

  • @Kaikoo I don't know that how Synthmaster Player responds to clock from Fugue Machine can really be classified as a bug to be fixed as Synthmaster can respond correctly to clock sent by other MIDI apps (e.g. midiSequencer) and Fugue Machine can send MIDI clock to other apps which respond correctly. The nature of the problem is that there are several different ways of implementing MIDI clock so you can end up with combinations of MIDI apps that can't sync well together. This has been a lament for iOS musicians for many years and why LINK support has been such a welcome solution to syncing apps.

Oh, That is great to know one more reason for SM Player to have 'Link' ready! Also, SM Player should have midi clock out feature too! Anyway what a mess for iOS. Actually, I should support 'Auria Link' to be Ableton Link alike suggestion. I don't use desktop, so not just to link 2 iPad devices but also make iOS version Auria Link production environment for all iPad apps!

How that sounds? I dunno, but certainly Auria Pro is the best DAW for iPad!

If Auria Pro is not going to be a contender to be iOS version 'Ableton Link' king at right now, All iOS apps will be slaved to desktop system later!

Why should I support iOS music apps to be slaved to desktop software? This is new operating hand hold system, why not let iOS music production environment to control desktop softs? I don't support the PC/Mac production environment just for the sake of music production industrial people!

@Kaikoo LINK doesn't require you to use Ableton or a desktop or laptop PC. It can sync apps running on the same iOS device or between iOS devices. It has not been unusual in the history of software/internet development for a large company to develop something that is intended for many platforms which then gets adopted on many platforms and often multi-company co-operative efforts have also happened. LINK seems to be more of the same and can benefit iOS MIDI apps and DAWs as well as desktop/laptop systems or music projects involving both iOS and desktop systems. Plus with an app like LINK to MIDI, even MIDI only hardware can benefit by being more in sync with MIDI software setups.

Sometimes it's not a case of winners or losers but a case where a high tide can float all boats. I think this was Ableton's approach and intention in this case and seems like a good development for all musicians using software on whatever platforms wherever LINK support is available.

  • Not sure if it's been mentioned, the Dr 80s drum kit does not seem to be mapped to the pads very good any suggestions ??

  • sooo,i tried SM in AB now.Simple connection, just Auria Pro in the output slot....and SM celebrates another crashfest. That means i absolutely can't use it.Did they even beta test their app?It REALLY starts to annoy me now...
