Novation Audiohub 2X4 problems on IOS 9.0 and above (temporary solution)

Just wondering if anyone else has the audiohub 2X4 and is having trouble connecting their ios 9.0 device. me: ipad pro 9.2. I get a message saying it does not supply enough power even though I have external power plugged in for the audiohub and receive no similar message on my ipad 2 on ios 8.0. Any experiences appreciated!

Yes having the same problem. Got in touch with Novation and they said it is to do with the recent iOS update. They couldn't give me a date on the fix. Very frustrating.

  • Which device do you have? Is it ipad pro specific or anything on 9.0 and above?

  • Same problem. iPad mini 4.
Both apple and novation were no help. Luckily I could return the device to guitar center. Now using focus rite Scarlett and a powered usb hub.

You might still be in the time window to "downgrade" your device back to iOS 9.0 which still works with the audio hub.

  • Hi there

Anyone got an update/ still having problems on this? Novation have stopped answering my emails and there seems to be no fix on the horizon even with recent iOS updates.

    Thanks

  • Same problem here iPad Air 1, can't find anything on novation website other than order of plugging in. Gutted really as I bought it for both PC and iOS compatibilty.

Actually. this has a pretty simple albeit annoying fix.
    1)purchase a usb hub
2)plug it to Cck then attach audiohub to usb hub

    pic proof:-

Only Hub light on. No audio light :(

Both Lights on. all systems go! :D
While i know this is annoying.... it does mean i now have 9 usb ports on my ipad. so i dont really mind tbh.

P.S:- The usb hub in the picture is a powered hub. but it works fine without plugging it into power. i even tested with a cheap 5$ unpowered hub and it works fine. or you can do the odball thing i did and plug in its power cable (it uses a usb charger) to one of the audiohubs usb slots to get even more powered usb slots. (in my case 8 powered slots total unused).

  • Great just tested works on unpowered cheap hub, thanks gonekrazy3000 hope it works with the new powered cck that I am looking to get my hands on

Yea. I'm going to grab one myself. considering its basically the same as a normal cck + lightening port i'm fairly certain it should work. keep in mind Im actually using a 30pin cck which is different from yours. (my old ipad 3 in that picture )
so if it works on 2 different ccks. should work on the new one too :)

I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but thanks a lot gonekrazy3000!

  • Yes! Finally tested and perfect!

  • Been using it on my air2 with the usb3 cck. Doesn't need the workaround as long as the lightening cable is plugged in :)
Bonus is my iPad stays fully charged now.

There seems to be something weird about iPad and connecting with midi keyboards and controllers etc...
I don't think it has much to do with Novation...maybe...
But the solution is an unpowered USB hub IF you don't need to power the controllers.
(They are smaller and cost nothing)....and no cables hanging around....
It also works accepting midi gear that normally iPad would refuse for reasons of incompatibility etc...sometimes you need to enable the "generic" driver so it works...

Please gonekrazy3000, can you confirm that you do not need the usb HUB when using the usb3 CCK?

    Thanks,

    Christophe

You do not need the hub. I have tested it myself on the iPad air 2. You do however need to power both the Audiohub and the iPad using a lightening cable if you want to use the USB ports. So it's 2 wall sockets. The upside is the iPad stays fully charged.

  • It's been more than 7 months and still no fix? I just got the device and it's not working with iOS 9.2.

It's working fine on ios 9.3.2 with the new cck. No need for the hub anymore. And the best part is the Ipad stays charged. And with older iOS versions and ccks the trick works fine.

It's not novation's fault. It's some bug introduced in iOS 9.1. Many manufacturers other than novation or focusrite give the same error so it's actually Apples fault.

  • @gonekrazy3000 - I would get a usb hub rather than an apple adapter which is damn costly here. Will any USB work? One more thing, this audiohub device is beautiful. I can even connect older USB keyboards to my iPad Mini 1st gen running on 8.4.

It works with any powered usb hub. you can see the pictures above of me using it with an Ipad3. which is pretty much in the same ballpark as your Mini 1st gen running ios 9.3.2. it also works with a non powered hub but it seems to be a bit random which non powered hubs work.

  • Hi guys,
I am stuck with the same issue right now. I've got:

    • ipad air 2 with ios 9.3.4 (latest)
    • cck 3

So, I get the dreaded not enough power error when i just connect my audiohub to my ipad via the cck3 (its connected to a power source) - and my audiohub is also connected to a power supply.

Don't know what to do :(
I'm gonna try buy a powered usb hub tomorrow and see if that helps.
    :(

Havent updated to iOS 9.4 yet but on 9.3 the Audiohub works without a hub on the cck3. Try and see if your hub light comes on when you get the error. If not your audiohubs power adaptor is loose.

  • There is another way to make it work. I got the apple lightning to usb 3 adapter. It allows you to connect usb and power the ipad at the same time.

He is using the usb3 adapter. That's what we call the cck3 here. Which is why it's strange he's still getting the error. It works fine on my air2 on 9.3.3. (I ain't going to update my OS to 9.3.4 just to check...)
