Gestrument works surprisingly well for drums
Been trying out the MIDI controller Gestrument as a drum controller the past few days and it works surprisingly well for drums.
Anyone else try this?
You just set up each channel's range, duration, and quantization, then use the general settings on the main page for variation, and you can get some nice stuff going.
Trickiest part is aligning it to the right octave, because apps and desktop DAWs vary with the location of drum notes, but once things are set up you can save that specific setting within Gestrument and not have to set it up again.
At any rate, potentially another way to get some drum patterns going if you're interested.

Love experiments like this. I used Accple Midi Guitar to play with Synths. Nice effect on Korgs Module. Strumming a Fender Rhodes
I love it especially for "fake jazz" drums.
It is very handy.
It's definitely got a certain amount of abstractness to it. That's what I like about it though, along with some of the other unique MIDI controller apps out there, as they feel like instruments of themselves. I only wish there were more!
I have also got some nice patterns from Fugue Machine into drums on the iM1 - I will have to give this a try.
This is a great idea for percussion and tuned drums.
It's also fun if you have a full keyboard layout of random short noise samples (it's amazing how useful a few of these can be), control that with Gestrument.
Keep this discussion going! Love the ideas!
Yeah if you have an application where you can spread out samples over a keyboard, the possibilities are near endless really, especially if each of those sample slots can have it's own effect. You could potentially set up one massive drum kit that is really just 3 or 4 variations of the same kit.
Then there's the rhythm function within Gestrument. Still haven't completely wrapped my head around that option as of yet, but from what I can tell it at least provides for more variation.
I only wish there were custom scales per channel, rather than just universal custom scales. Still, you can set the note range per channel and work within those parameters.
In the end it's kind of a lot to set up, and you still pretty much have to approach it with the idea that some of it is going to be out of your control, just because of the nature of the app. All worth it though I am finding.
