I think I'll take a Monday morning flyer on this, as much as anything because of the latest version improvement note which explains:
improved drag and drop makes drag and drop button obsolete
You used to have to put one finger on the drag and drop button and then use another to drag the chord from the dictionary to the timeline/chord progression. I haven't tested the new behaviour yet, so I cannot comment on how improved it is.
It became my third favorite chord app after Mapping Tonal Harmony and Pro Chords. The interface is super quick to work with.
Does it compare in any way to Cubase Chord Assistant?
@SirKen What is it about Pro Chords that you prefer? I find Pro Chords interface to be kludgy, but I do like the tiered chord suggestions. Does Klimper just give you a long list instead of compatibility levels?
@aaronpc
The tiered chord suggestions is the thing I like the most about ProChords. Klimper does not have that. However, it does provide chord suggestions based on the note of the scale. So, you can play your melody on the keyboard and see which chords would work at every single note.
Not really. It would certainly be cool to have relationships between chords in Klimper.
Thanks @SirKen.
@SirKen Thanks from me as well, though I don't know why I bother to ask questions in the first place. I'm always a sucker for these kinds of tools, so I would be buying it either way. For the greater good, I suppose.
I've been using it as a sketch tool for chord progressions. I like the layout, it's easy to find the chord I'm looking for (I don't need chord suggestions as my music theory is pretty strong) and I like the timeline.
What I don't like is the interaction around adding chords (removing the button will help here) and inversions are a little confusing (I can work it out, but it's confusing and it's a pain to dial in the right inversion).
Is there a way to modify the voicing of a chord? So if I want to do a G7 - could I do C4 Bb4 E5. It would be nice to play more with voice leading (ideally if I could actually see a piano roll of the voicing as it plays) using this tool.
Mapping Tonal Harmony Pro
I thought it was OK, a bit average perhaps, but then added in Module and suddenly it was lovely, very lovely.
Overall impression is that it's not worth it for three bucks, but is more than worth it for six.
Is this indeed like Cubase Chord Assistant. I'm trying to find something with similar capabilities for IOS
@gkillmaster,
Oh, I dunno!
I just bought it after reading John Walden's review! And two hours for it. For my concern it has barebones midi (out and clock) feature! I played it with Animoog and Lyra from Auria. And Auria can do unsynchronized midi recording for the phrase I wrote to it's internal step sequencer. I like the real time chord viewing part, you can change the chord in between the steps! It is very flexible but only one instrument at a time to play with.
The main point I bought it is because those editing feature to tune chord on every steps. If mistake after looping it, I can have some changes on the fly!
I do not intend to talk more here because this thread is for Klimper! Just saw this thread, so can give you a comparison to pick what you looking for!
+1
On sale right now: $0,99 from $2,99.
So sale price + IAP (MIDI Out) = Regular price.
I bought midi out for free, few days ago
