Rock drum programming on iPad?
What is the best app for programming realistic rock ( not metal) drums. Basically I want I nice hard kick, a snare that cracks, and some hi hats and crash cymbals that sound real.
Any recommendations?

Drumperfect. Drumstudio. Rock Drum Machine. DM-1. Auria with Drumagog.
Three answers, the first is an Auria Pro solution, the second relies on DAW + external IAA or Audiobus app, and the third is an untested possibility if you also have Logic Pro X:
1) Auria Pro only: Lyra has decent rock drum samples, but you would be better served by Drumagog, an IAP that is exactly the same famous Drumagog plugin for Logic, ProTools etc. most pros use (which is logical, since Drumagog and AP are both made by WaveMachine Labs);
2) Drum Perfect (soon to have a Pro upgrade btw): it's the closest thing we have to Superior Drummer on iOS. Use it with Auria Pro or another DAW of your liking;
3) Auria Pro + Logic (untested): the built-in sampler has the ability to load huge EXS libraries. The famed Logic Pro X's Drum Kit Designer is just a front-end for the ESX24 sampler, so it relies on EXS libraries. Use the same ones you would use with Logic - there is another topic somewhere on how to load EXS libraries to Auria Pro - and cross fingers, because if it works, you'll have drums unmatched in iOS.
How do you use DP with Auria Pro? Do you midi out to DP?

I would imagine you would still do the programming in DP so as to utilize its humanizing and probabilistic behaviours.
I would love to see someone get 3 working!
This.
P.S.: But it's boooooooring to program with DP's current interface. Hope it gets sorted out with DPP. Here's a rock song I made with DP (and Auria 1.x!):
If you just want a realistic sounding stereo drum track, Rock Drum Machine is well worth the $10 price tag and should take care of all your needs. Lots of great sounds/kits, really easy to build up a song with a random, human feel using jam intensity. TheSoundtestroom.com has some great demos of RDM if you're unfamiliar.
If you want to create stems, get a hold of some good drum samples, basically the sounds you want and either import into DrumPerfect and build up your track there (if you RTFM, you can do a LOT inside this app) OR
Import your drum samples into Gadget with the Bilbao IAP. This gives you 16 pads and you can switch out sounds on the fly for each song's needs. The piano roll in Gadget is just dead easy to use, velocity's a cinch to control, and occasionally turning off quantize and/or turning up swing can produce a very realistic drum performance. However, to get stems, you basically have to turn the volume down on every pad except the stem your exporting, wash, rinse and repeat. A bit of a pain, but the resulting tracks can sound very natural, and mixing stems gives you greater control of your final mix - if you want it.
DrumPerfect can also do a stereo mix with much finer control, especially if you have multi-velocity samples. Bilbao can, too, for that matter, but for stereo rock drum tracks, Rock Drum Machine can't be beat for the combo of great sounding included samples and ease of use. Especially if you're not a drummer and have no interest in programming. RDM does all the heavy lifting for you.
Thanks
Thanks for the great break down!!! exactly what I need. Drumagog? in Auria pro. I didn't know that was an in app purchase. sounds awesome
Gonna try that out for sure! how much is the drum agog in app purchase?
sorry ,you said if I "RTFM" what does that mean? Also, were can I find some really good rock drum samples, so that I can load them into an app to be programmed?
Read The Friendly Manual.
There are a number of threads you can search here - one is dedicated completely to samples, search for the "Sample Fodder" thread, or just search out on the internet for "free drum samples" - you'll find a lot of good, free samples from both searches (not remembering any site names at the moment, sorry!)
RTFM = Read the Manual. If you've ever spent way too much time getting frustrated trying to learn an app on your own before finally consulting the User Manual in sweaty angst, you can probably guess what the F stands for - its a pretty common term in these parts
But seriously, if you only want a single stereo drum track, Rock Drum Machine is a great all in one solution - Lots of kits and samples that all sound great, and it's very easy to set up an entire song in 20 minutes. Stems are where it gets trickier ...
RDM largely obviates the need to RTFM.
haha I know what That "F" means
