Geo Synth: What's it about?

Here is my situation.

I got Geo Shred. I really, really like it.

So, I got Sample Wiz. I really, really, don't know what I think of it.

Best out of 3.

What is Geo like?

Comments

  • Until Geo Shred gets MIDI out I definitely recommend Geo Synth as a MIDI controller, it's basically a less expressive version of Geo Shred that can also control external synths.

  • Does it take MIDI in as well?

I guess so, I've never actually wanted to do that though :)

  • I know, I just wondered.

Its about the user interface. I get it.

How about the sounds? Are they actual synths or samples?

    Quality of them?

Presets able to be made and saved?

    Share presets?

What 2 other apps does it most sound like?

    No more questions, promise. Maybe.

  • Internal sounds are OK, and AFAIK they're synthesized, not sampled. Not sure about presets, sorry, and I don't think it really sounds like any other app to my ears. I will reiterate that for me it's primary use has always been as a MIDI controller, I've not really used the internal sounds all that much, I use it to drive other synths.

  • Geo Synth is basically sample-based synthesis with a few effects thrown on top, FYI. Presets can be made, and SampleWiz can export new recorded presets into it.

But yeah, the real draw of it is the midi controller aspect.

  • To follow up on @sonosaurus and @richardyot's comments - I once spent an entire afternoon grinning ear to ear using Geo Synth to control a sax patch in Thumbjam or SampleTank. Total blast, definitely an expressive midi controller. Mr. Rudess has indicated it will be getting an update as well.

  • Geosynth is an excellent midi controller. I've never used the internal sounds for a track. As of now Geoshred doesn't have midi out, so if you want to 'shred' on another app you'll need Geosynth. But midi is apparently coming to Geoshred soon, so you might want to wait.

  • I think it has some good sounds in it as well. Definitely worth a look.
