Midiflow 2.2.8

Hi,
Midiflow 2.2.8 is finally here and brings a couple of new features:

  • Send MIDI based on device motion (needs Controller Remapping)
  • Send MIDI data when a preset is loaded (in-app purchase)
  • MIDI learn for almost all values (split points, channels etc.)
  • Tap clock tempo
  • Control clock tempo via MIDI (controller assignment)

  • Congratulations this looks fantastic! MIDI learn sounds unreal, I can’t wait to test it out. Great work as usual with the manual too.

    With this update including sending MIDI on preset change, it seems Midiflow is covering more of what iMIDIPatchbay can do. Are you still planning on integrating some of Midiflow’s filtering into iMIDIPatchbay?

  • Yes, iMIDIPatchbay will be updated and (continue) focussing on the live-performing keyboardist. I know that Midiflow has quite some things that iMIDIPatchbay should have too (and soon will). Midiflow on the other hand is the universal MIDI tool for everyone else.

    One of the best manuals out there!

  • Awesome update, Johannes!

    THX for the update, is it possible to see the midi ch. in the monitoring?
    @JohannesD cant find it...i couls set HEX or CC but where is the Ch.?
    The Midi Monitor is Standard OFF, could you set this to standard ON?
    and how can i Re Order the Monitoring Channels?
    can i drag and drop it from lets say the fifth Monitoring Channel i insert, to the first place left from these inserted channels?.....

    great App!

  • This is one awesome app. One of my most used apps in fact, as I've taken into habit of routing most things midi to/from it, to keep it as a central hub and one-stop-shop for controlling it all in one place as far as possible.

    Now, if MidiFlow handled Link too...:)

    Glad to hear imidipatchbay will get more updates soon. use it all the time for live performances.

  • Thanks for the feedback!

    @obiwahnkentobi
    Good suggestions (your not the first one, though), I'll add that it one of the upcoming updates. The monitor is off because I don't want people to keep in on without needing it, but wasting CPU.

    @hellquist
    What exactly would you like Midiflow to do with regard of Link?

    @Lacm1993
    That's great. I'm sure, you'll love the update, once it is out.

    ...

    Well, I didn't have a master plan, or any thought out plans at all actually, but I have been using MidiFlow quite a bit, not only for the routing/triggers and "if this then that" stuff, but also as a midi master clock when I can. I was mainly thinking it'd be convenient if MidiFlow "know" Link and could adapt it's midi clock for the apps that don't do link and I'd have a great way of solving most sync problems. That'd probably also mean MidiFlow would need to be able to pick up the Link bar length etc, but that could also provide an opportunity for new triggers etc.

    I don't know how useful it would be, or what drawbacks there would be with something like this, nor how tricky it would be to program.

    As per always, I wouldn't mind paying for it as an IAP.

    PS. I am still curious on how you configured MidiFlow for that video where you play the piano and have strings (or similar) following the main piano chord structure, but not doing all the little details of the piano melody. ;)

  • @hellquist
    Yes, I thought about adding a converter from Link to MIDI clock into Midiflow, but there was one announced already and then I switched to other things.

    Concerning the piano and strings, this is still top secret :)

  • @hellquist I used Midiflow as I was developing MIDI Link Sync, particularly for its ability to route MIDI to/from the network sessions easily. I also found that Midiflow's MIDI clock that it generates is very accurate in terms of jitter, so it made for good testing. I was able to effectively make Midiflow the Ableton Link clock master.

    Now that MIDI Link Sync is up and running, it offer both MIDI to Link and Link to MIDI and has its own interfaces for choosing MIDI sources/destinations. But still I could imagine using Midiflow to set up the routing for the convenience of being able to store preset routes.

  • @CodingCod great to hear. I downloaded Midi Link Sync earlier today but have yet to test it, but true enough, it sounds like a good combo of apps. :)

    Tying back to old comment in other thread, as all talk of Midi Link Sync reminded me of LoopTree and that I hadn't used it enough, I've started exploring that too. Loving it! You should market it more! Also, I like that it is universal. I have recently added an iPhone 6S+ to my arsenal (iPad Pro & iPad4) but I really like being able to sample things immediately, with my phone. Used to use AudioShare for quick field recordings. Now it is LoopTree. Have more exploration to do, but so far impressed. :)
