iFretless Bass App, do you use it?

Was wondering how many folks actually use the app. I've been using the demo version and I kind of got used to it. Is there anything better? How about the $15 price...any specials ever on this?

Comments

  • Can't comment on the price, as I bought all the 4 apps together.

I use it for making loops as it's quite playable over a short period. I couldn't use it as an instrument though for a long period, that's just the limits of touch screen though.

    The lowest was 3 bucks...

I love it... it's the best bass app for me. And I use the Guitar one for solos and such too.
Sometimes I even dare to drive it's midi to sampletank for some flute or clarinet sounds  really expressive stuff

  • Cool forgot it could do midi out so that's awesome to get different Bass sounds using other apps. Man, we need a sale on this one fast as Drumperfect Pro is coming out soon.

  • I have used it a bit. Now owning an actual bass I think it is the best app for getting "real" bass sounds on my iPad, at least when it comes to how I can play it, especially when I'm using DrumPerfect. I still find the GUI/Interface for the settings to be a bit...fiddly...but for the actual playing I find it really good.

If you excuse the blatant self promotion, my only "official" recording with it was for a contest entry in FB iPad Musician group a year or so ago, but it worked really well there too.

  • they need more videos, for an app of this caliber the fretless team is pretty quiet

  • Agree with @hellquist and @senhorlampada's comments - I think it's the best acoustic/stringed bass app on iOS. The fact that I've carried it on multiple devices despite the file size being large-ish is testament to that. I do have an inexpensive bass at home that I can use to record bass parts with an Apogee interface and modeling app, but sometimes it's just as effective to use iFretless, particularly if I want to sketch out a simple bassline or backing track to use with guitar later.

The thing that really seals it for me is how well it responds to MIDI velocity. There are some pretty passable bass SoundFonts you could use with bs-16i or whatever instead of this. But with the slap and picked basses in iFretless, you can hear the difference in attack on the higher velocity notes, where the notes have more "bite" to them as opposed to just being louder as you dig in on the string. That's the type of subtle difference you might not even notice if you don't play the instrument (or may get lost in the mix anyway), but as a guitar player, I appreciate it.

I've somehow managed to never buy iFretless Guitar, even though I'm positive I will someday. Part of it's just the principle of the thing - I have guitars...I should be enjoying them and learning to play them better as opposed to programming an app to do it. But I'm sure that's an excellent app too. iFretless Bass highly recommended. I've used the onscreen string interface to record parts, or programmed simple MIDI tracks with quarter note changes if I want the timing more accurate.

  • My most used ifretless app and my most used bass app. I think it's terrific. A front-pager for me.

We need a iFretless Bass sale badly! Otherwise Drumperfect pro gonna take my iTunes dolla! :# :* :D o:)

  • I held out for a sale for a while, but ended up just buying it.

In this case I have no regrets whatsoever, whereas I can't say the same for some apps I only purchased because they were on sale...

  • It's always on my go-to list for various things I can't do elsewhere.

  • Thanks guys, bought it. Needed it and I'm glad I did.
