Did the Garage Band update make you upgrade to IOS 9?

I'm still on 8.2 but thinking about it.

Comments

  • It was indeed what made me upgrade.

  • I upgraded in September in anticipation for AU, thinking app developers would be ready shortly after. So I jumped the gun and had to wait a couple of months before I saw that iSEM got updated. But I had no compatible AU host until GB was just updated. Now I'm waiting for Cubasis to get onboard. But I'm not sure how long it'll take them. :/

  • I never hold off on upgrades.

  • I'm making backups of all my apps just in case I go for it.

  • i have two ipads, one on 9 and one on 8.4.1 so i put it on the nine but was pretty underwhelmed by it. i was hoping the drummer would be more robust with more kits per drummer (like funk drummer has) but they are pretty bland.

I may do it tonight on iPad if I have time, iPhone already was on iOS 9. I need to back up iPad first just in case.

But to directly answer the question, it absolutely is the tipping point for me to upgrade the iPad, I love this update.

Almost did it. I was thinking about it three days ago.

Then I read this Yesterday http://auriaapp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=13827&p=45441

    And this https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/11876/audio-interface-latency-problems

So now I am happy that I am on iOS 8.4 And no I'm not upgrading, not even for GarageBand! :-/

  • I see that 9.2.1 popped up on my phone today, is that an answer to this perhaps?

With that being said though, I used garageband on iPhone 9.2 with my alesis io4 yesterday and didn't notice anything different with regard to latency.

I'm going to back up my iPad tonight anyway since it's been a while. I realized I have garageband deleted on my iPad anyway because I needed the space for a bunch of auria mixing projects. I should get those done so I can clear off the 20gb of space they're using.

I'm still on 8.4, and definitely not upgrading until the latency issue with non-MFI (ie regular USB) interfaces gets fixed. I'm not really tempted by the GarageBand upgrade, but the Rolli app is one that I wish was compatible with iOS8. I'm sure there will be more iOS 9 only apps in the coming months, and then once Auria gets AU the temptation will be even stronger.

  • Certainly not for garbage band. I would only end up deleting it for the third or fourth time anyway! This brings to mind the pro wrestler who called himself "Rapapapunski". When asked by an announcer , "why do you repeatedly ram your head into the turn buckle prior to every match?" Rapapapunski replied, " Because it feels so good when I stop."!

Not me. But I bought a new Air 2 64 with 9.2 pre installed and it feels tighter than my air 8.4 when live looping and a glitch that's always been there hasn't shown its ugly face on EIE as yet.

Not here, but then GB updated itself on my iPhone 5 - something apps do from time to time, but not every time.
    ???

  • Some folks have special instances where their setup depends on x, y, or z and for them I’m sure they have good reason not to upgrade. The rest of the folks who don’t are basically the same as folks who disable Javascript in their browser. You’re just holding up progress. Now I have to waste my time creating an environment that will play nice with grandpa jones and his insecurities. Wasted time. Upgrade already. And for the love of god and all his lovely creatures, turn Javascript on.

  • I’m sure I’m going to take a beating for saying that, but its my opinion. Obviously I dont agree with the audiobus gods on this one.

  • Oh, and the earth is flat. Apparently. According to B.o.B. anyway. (dont ask me who that is, just google it and enjoy)

  • My wife's iPad is now on 9.2.1 and the Sonic Port VX records perfectly. Now considering it more.

Flat earth Grandpa Jones says: - no, GB is not a reason for me. I don't even have it loaded

The only reasons I "upgraded" to iOS 9 were:

1.) To get rid of 3GB of unwanted and undeleteable iOS 9 "upgrade" files on a 7.1.2 iPad that were wasting space that I kept free for recording with and which could not be removed. (Been a thread about that already.)

2.) To deliberately put onto a new iPad to see what works and what doesn't. (A good number of threads about what does not work well on 9 already). It's a test iPad - one that I don't rely on for music production and I'm glad I don't. Things are not working correctly on it.

I've kept the other iPads at levels below 9 given the issues. My workhorse is still on 7.1.2

I've got to go rest now sonny, grandpa's feeling old and luddite this evening. Now, where did I put that switch to turn on Javascript in my browser? I know it's around here somewhere...

(And I have no idea who B.o.B. is @boone51 - never heard of him sonny  - but - then I forget a lot these days... .... Huh? what was I saying... Oh yes... When I were't lad...)

Seeing as most Focusrite and Apogee interfaces have been broken in 9.2, it's quite a few people who could be affected. I'm glad I didn't upgrade, because I would not actually be able to do anything musical with my iPad right now if I had. Sorry for holding progress back though :P

  • I wouldn't upgrade my iOS 7.x ipad2 for garage band, even if I hadn't the Pro.
But I would like to upgrade it to get AB remote. But I also have been recommended to stick with 7 performance wise

  • @MusicInclusive thanks for that. I actually lol'd (this is a term young'ns are using these days - means Look Out Lampshade, I think)

@richardyot you made me panic for a sec. Have the Apogee Jam and the Focusrite Solo. Went into a complete full on panic attack thinking they weren't working anymore (I'm on 9.2) until I remembered I used them last night. Now I'm staring at the notification that 9.2.1 wants to install itself with an ominous eye, though. Officially spooked now. Look what I've done to myself. If I had a nickel for every time I've said that I wouldn't be so despondent about one of the three US Powerball winning tickets being sold in my grocery store down the street.

  • To us ancient programmers @boone51 LOL is List-of-Lists - a nested data structure. None of this Internet humor stuff. Bah humbug!

Yeah - I tweeted and asked bob why we don't see all of the continents on the Earth from space at the same time - no answer... he probably broke something thinking about it.

  • Yes it did. Today I upgraded my Air 2 from ios 8 to 9 cause of the GB update, specially cause of the new drum feature. I like it! Haven't fully explored it, but was happy with a drumtrack I made with it for a project. Also the simple eq is nice (high/bass) as is the simple compressor.
.....My Sonic Port (interface) is still working.

  • Awesome! I did too. Thanks to the advise of Musicinclusive and others everything went smoothly. GB definitely seems tighter all around. More polished sound somehow. Just need time....oh where is time yo learn and have fun? This is why the iPad is such an awesome blessing
..so little time yet it allows us to make music anywhere.
My sonic port vx is working also!

What i find could very interesting is that all the new UI´s of the updated apple plug-ins in Logic Pro X looks like if they where made for a touch input too. They have large knobs, sliders, high resolution UI and a very clean and flat design.
So i wonder if we see a lot of Logic´s FX and/or plug-ins in Garage Band iOS too in near future as AUi or they really begin to think about a Logic for iOS......mmmhhhhh or even think about an possible OSX-iOS hybrid thingie if Microsoft success with the Surfaces evolves (yes, i think compared to their first trys they must done something better in the last 2-3 years).
But a Logic for iOS with nearly the options of the OSX version would kill of all competition maybe. And that is not always good.
Edit: For those who doesn´t know Logic Pro X here is an example how it looks....
