Sugarbytes Turnado and WOW failures in Audiobus! Is it only me? BUZZ! Aaaaagghh!

I have no end of bother with these apps in Audiobus. Is it only me? When I try to bring them in I am greeted with silence or a loud short BUZZ! sound followed by silence.

  • Effectrix quit being viable a little while back.

I can say with certainty, that I have an annoying amount of issues with both these apps.

I will delete and reinstall, if no help- they are gone.

Nothing but problems, like many F/x apps for me actually.

The only 100% totally stable F/x apps I use are from Kymatica and Holderness. Otherwise, always something or another.

I have taken to using things like the Pioneer DJ app that allows for performance style f/x or running loops/samples thru Launchpad with its amazing f/x packages. (I have all of them bought)

Also, FLUX works pretty good for me most of the time.

Sugar Bytes doesn't seem to have its heart in IOS anyway.

  • Turnado and Wow are pretty much a pain in the ass for use in Audiobus. I only keep them as I can then use their Auria counterparts, which seem far more stable :)

I too recently deleted Effectrix while swearing at the app God :p

  • I walk very quietly around Turnado, especially in AudioBus. If it wasn't so useful, I'd kick it to the corner.

  • Yesterday I was swearing on all three of em, none of them could grab any midi sync so wow was half legged, turnado still usable effectrix already in the trash bin. Tried 'em today and everything was alright :|
    Pretty perplexed.
Inside Auria they work fine, even if I blame those for some random crashes

  • I have mailed Sugarbytes to let them know- I will let you know the response.

  • Maybe a iOS9 issue?
Both Turnado and WOW are running smooth on my iPad mini2 with iOS 8.4.1 and Audiobus 2.3.2 (1)

Nope. I'm still on iOS 8.4.1 (iPad Mini 2) and encounter buzz from both Turnado and Wow on a regular basis. Closing/reopening seems to fix it but it sure is bit annoying.

  • Not this apps for me since i use an iPhone but there are a lot of combinations and/or when i change an app within an Audiobus Session it mostly ends in a crash, a hanging drone like tone (i should record it as sound source;) or an app is "busy" or show me other error messages. I´m on iOS 9.2. and it´s still nearly unusable.

  • Yeah, I get the hanging drone tone frequently. Closing and reopening the app works, but it's a pain.

Yes but then i'm already out of joy when i have to reopen it all again.....
It seems that is a neverending bug story. But i doubt that any developer can change that!
So let's hope iOS 10 is the right thing...

Yah I have two pads, one on 8.4.1 and one on 9. all the Sugar Bytes FX stuff works great in AB on 8.4.1 and not on 9

  • Five days later- no response from Sugarbytes- so l have mailed them again...... Surprised anyone?

On a happier note- I seem to have found a temporary solution that has worked since I discovered it (about six times now- without fail) if you would like to give it a try.
Open Turnado- without Audiobus being open.
Press 'play' on Turnado, to play a preset phrase.
    Press record (icon)
    Press stop
    Swipe it away

    Open Audiobus
Select instrument/sender then open it and play it as a loop (it may work without playing a loop- I have not tried this- I always have Gadget running to try to ram it's way in there as soon as Turnado opens

  • I don't quite know what happened to the rest of the message?
Anyway- then select Turnado as the effect..... Then tap it to open it. You should now be hearing your loop......

  • First off, I am sorry about these problems. We tried to track down these issues here and just couldn't reproduce them. If you have any more details or hints what exactly is not working out, please let us know, here in the forum or to [email protected].

    As a rough first-aid kit:

Turnado effect in Audiobus-silence the input:
On startup please check if all effect knobs in Turnado are set to zero. There are certain effects like the Slicearranger which grabs the current audio and then rearranging it. If you load your song with the effect already activated it will capture silence (since your song is not running).

Loud short BUZZ when introducing it into Audiobus:
This issue has already been fixed in our latest version but sometimes a simple reinstall on iOS doesn't work properly
so you will have to better delete the SB app from your iPad by long pressing the icon, then shut down your iPad and restart it. After that open the App Store and (re)install your SB app.

None of them could grab any MIDI sync:
Please note that Audiobus itself doesn't unfortunately provide play, stop and the current positon.
So you will need to send a midi clock to eg Effectrix. This can only be done via virtual midi for example with Beatmaker, Loopy, Cubasis and Auria. In Effectrix you can also just activate "MIDI Trigger” to fire up Effectrix with a MIDI note and use the pattern keys.

    Best,
    Sugarbytes Nadine

  • I can run the latest updates of WOW, Effectrix, and Turnado without any problems using the latest versions of iOS and Audiobus on an iPad Air 2 including sending MIDI clock to the Sugarbytes apps.

  • I have tried the delete and reinstall after switching off. I open audiobus, open gadget, open Turnado, then BUZZ! Followed by silence and no play through. Same with DM1..... And all the others come to think of it.

  • @robosardine you might want to follow up some more with Sugarbytes as I was able to get Gadget and later DM1 going through Turnado in Audiobus with the latest versions of the apps and iOS on an iPad Air 2.
