Wifi Router Connectivity Issue: OLD HOUSE SYNDROME

Moved in to big house built of stone in 1840s.

Needless to say, having issues keeping good erection, I mean connection.

What means have you used to address WIFI challenges? Software, Hardware, Voodoo accepted.

Thanks in advance.

  • With stone, I'd consider a PoE wifi bridge and some wifi extenders.

  • I got a really bad wifi connection in our apartment. I searched around for a solution and the best was a Netgear N300 repeater amplifier.

It plugs in power and does the job. Usual placement is half way or closer to you.
Amazon guarantee that you can return it if it doesn't work.
I went through 2 units a wifi router and something else before I got it working.
    Good luck

  • 1939 douglas fir and it's always been a problem. Mounting your router centrally and up high helps. Don't connect old equipment that may slow your overall speed.

    Thanks all!

It is new equipt went from 2.4 to 5.

House is stone so its a killer structure to get thru.

  • 2.4Ghz penetrates (slightly) better than 5GHz, but 5GHz is not in competition with as many signals as 2.4GHz.

  • How about something like this?

Uses your mains wiring to distribute the signal round the house

  • I've had a successful experience using my mains wiring to carry the network around a problematic house. Of course it still doesn't help the wifi signal in the several dead spots that exist.

I used this in a house where wifi was a problem, worked great for me. Just wacked a second wifi access point onto the end or eop connection

  • Wow thanks for starting this thread and for that tip @BiancaNeve. I didn't even know such A thing existed and was pulling my hair out with trying various routers and such. Bought one instantly for my 1890 home.
