Auria plugs

Just wondering why more devs haven't added into the Auria plug library. There are quite a few, but most have been there since day one.

  • Dunno, I've mentioned it a few times to potential plugin devs but I guess that most must think the market isn't big enough to justify the time. Personally I would gladly re-purchase an app just to be able to use it inside of Auria, mobile convolution for example would awesome as an Auria plugin, same for any of the AU:FX apps, or Holderness Media etc...

  • Sooner or later most apps will support AU in one way or another so it would be waste of time to create plug-ins for one 'closed host' since there is no way to use the plug-ins with other apps.

Surely Wavemachinelabs won't be in a hurry to introduce AU support as sales of their 'closed host' plug-ins will plummet. Actually, not sure if they make any money from current plug-ins or if it all goes to FabFilter, PSP etc. So we'll see. Would be awesome though.

There's nothing that comes close to the FabFilter plugins though @AndyE, or even some of the PSP ones - so I doubt very much that either would suffer great loss by "competition" (such as it would not be) from other plugins. Besides, albeit in IAA form (and albeit only one instance at present), almost all the great FX that are already available now are usable inside Auria / Auria Pro.

Further Rim has already said he will add AU support.

"Definitely planning on adding support for AU, as soon as I get all the critical updates out of the way.

    Rim"

  • I thought that all plugin revenue went to the dev, and not to Wavemachine, but I don't recall where I heard that.

I realize AU is being considered by Rim, and that's likely to explain it now, but there was a big gap between the last Auria plug and AU being released.

I also think that devs could create a standalone app that works as an Auria plug (ala Sugarbytes) and an AU. Of course the business model would need to make sense, but I believe the benefit would be that a full Auria plug in is less hampered by memory constraints that an AU has.

they don't earn anything from the sales of plugins (besides their own plugins of course but that's only...two?).All goes to the external companies and apple. So don't worry,AU support is high on the list but rim already said he want to iron out the bugs first.

  • AU support in Auria Pro would be a dream. Need some more AU instruments first though. I'm sure that's just around the corner. Surely..........

  • I think it's more likely that Fabfilter and PSP will make their Auria plugins into AU apps, and thereby increase their markets.

Not sure about that. The plugin integration is basically a kind of VST Wrapper that WML wrote. If the other companies wants to release the plugs as AB/IAA/AU it would need much more development work from their side.

  • Rim has definitely said that he makes nothing off the plugins, but it's one of Auria's secret sauces, people love the plugins so much, there is nothing else quite like them. Fabfilter may very well make their stuff into AUs, if the other DAWs support them - it would increase their potential revenue stream nicely.

Yep,probably he could make the wrapper standalone but of course, this definitely won't happen for good reasons ;)
