Pulling EXS files from Logic or Mainstage
Is this possible? I'm trying to find these within Mainstage for use in Auria/Lyra, but all the EXS patches have a .patch file extension, so I'm wondering if that will work as is within Lyra, or is there an export function or another way to approach this.
Comments
When I look at my Logic Pro X installation I find that:
The *.esx files are stored in /Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments/
The 'samples'(a mixture of *.caf, *.wav and *.aiff) that these *.esx instruments use are stored in /Library/Application Support/ESX Factory Samples/
I don't have AuriaPro so i can't see or test how it handles *.esx files but I suspect it might be a bit trivial since the many of Logic's *.esx files seem to have (after a quick look with a hex-editor) hardcoded path to the samples.
I guess my initial searches didn't search the Library. Now that I've pointed Finder to that, I'm seeing all 928 .exs files! Thanks @Samu! Now to give some a try in Auria, and I believe you're right with the hardcoding of the sample path.
Just put them all in one folder. Lyra will figure it out automatically.
^yep.
Put it All in a zip file if you are doing it via "open in" without iTunes/ifunbox.
Thanks guys!
Actually, there is an export function:
1. Open EXS24
2. Select one of the patches and then click Edit
3. Click Instrument->Save as - this will allow you to save .exs wherever you want i.e. to Desktop
4. Click Instrument->Export Sampler instrument and Sample files - this will export all the corresponding samples to a selected destination folder
5. Copy .exs and the samples folder (from steps 3-4) to Auria
6. PROFIT
Nice and fast, as you can see
Sorry for my ignorance here, but just confirming: is this all possible with just the purchase of Mainstage? I'd love to restore access to Alchemy-style sounds in Auria, and $29 would be a small price to pay if it works.
Yes, MainStage contains the same set of instruments/plugins/sounds that Logic has.
Moreover, it has AutoSampler which is missing in Logic and which is required if you want to have "Alchemy-style sounds in Auria" (because Alchemy is not exs24-based, you can't use its patches in Auria)
Thanks @yug! Can't try it until tomorrow, but looking forward to giving it a go.
