Akai MPK mini mkII joystick

I keep the Akai MPK mini mkII in my nightstand for easy bedroom producing with the iPad. The only issue I have with it is that the joystick has a center spring. This is fine for mapping to pitch bend, but it's very awkward when mapping to the virtual mod wheel of an app. As soon as I touch the joystick, the app's virtual mod wheel snaps to the center position and I need to hold the joystick in the down position to get zero modulation. Has anybody here found a workaround for this? Thanks.

  • I had the same 'problem' before until I figured out that it's easy to solve by assigning 2 cc's to it, one for up and one for down.

  • Here's a picture showing one of my MPK Mini Mk II setups to clarify the above.
In this setup the 'mod-stick' down is cc4 (foot pedal on/off) cc2 would be 'breath controller' or practically any controller other than cc1 as that would cause mod-wheel to stay in the middle all the time since both up/down would be transmitting cc1 making the value stay in the middle.

    Good luck.

Thanks for your help. I'll give it a try this weekend.

UPDATE: Works like a charm! I even setup Program 4 to map the iVCS3 joystick!

  • I found this thread with a google search and this solved my problem with the joystick. So thank you!

I have a question: How do you connect the Akai MPK mini MPK2 to the ipad?

  • cck-usbhub-ipad

Never thought of doing that. It was pissing me off bigtime.

Sold it anyway and rebought a Launchkey Mini MK2.
Bus powered and works very nice with BM3
