Hello from the creator of Freewheeling
Hello Michael aka TastyPixel.
I'm the developer who made Freewheeling, which was one of the first software loopers out there. I started writing it in 2000, and developed it continuously for 11 years.
http://freewheeling.sourceforge.net
I stopped in 2011 due to significant life changes which took me away from music, for a time.
I have to say that when I first saw Loopy, I wondered if perhaps you were inspired by Freewheeling. I noticed the freely revolving wheels of loops, and also the way the sample bends into the loop when recording, and thought of my code that does that rotation transform and wondered if you used it. I am happy to learn, from your blog, that Freewheeling was an inspiration for you. It gives me a sense of satisfaction knowing that something I built has inspired and informed your own work on an innovative musical platform, and also that these ideas and innovations are reaching wide audiences such as what we are seeing with mainstream people using these tools.
I have many ideas for looper innovations that still nobody has built...Some of them could be very disruptive, and I think people would enjoy.... I'd like to share some of them with you...
Send me a private message if you like!!!
And thanks for all your work on mobile apps like Loopy and AudioBus...
Super cool!

@Michael has his own loopy forum where he's perhaps more likely to be reading. He's also currently working on a new app called loopy masterpiece. He's been sharing a lot of his development stages and interacting a lot with the user base too. You can also send a pm to @Michael directly if you like. And it would be great to hear some of your suggestions.
I just wondered if this could be a good place for us all to natter about looper ideas and desires in general?
Hey, jpmercury
I used to use Freewheeling back in the day. It was great for experimental and you could run it in Linux. Glad your still around!! Check my vid from long ago.
Good to see you here JPMercury! You might remember me as another member of ye old Linux Looper developers, I did SooperLooper (and still very infrequently maintain it). People around here know me for my iOS apps ThumbJam and DrumJam though....
Really? That's awesome, I didn't know that was you! It's a nice looper. Maybe something to port to iOS (PlumJam at last?)
What??! I knew I recognized the TJ color scheme/style from somewhere! That's awesome. I made many noisey delights with sooperlooper.
My favorite of the desktop loopers was Ambiloop. At least up until I switched to Mac (which is when I discovered Sooperlooper, ty Jesse). Ambiloop was a dead simple 8 track looper that wore "Line 6 DL4" on its sleeve. 1/2 and 2x tempo was a breeze, reverse was the same—just like the DL4. But there was 8 of them! Plus he added feedback per track at some point so that you could sorta single channel Fripp it. Volume, pan, mute, solo and a LP filter per track for mixing afterward (or during). For soundscaping that allowed per track control afterwards (vs traditional all on one tape looping) it was a total dream for me. Each track was just a wave file so it was easy to grab them all afterward and drop them into your DAW for arranging.
