General Clipboard

Can someone clarify how the audio clipboard works in iOS? If I have AudioCopy installed, does it take over/replace the simple ability to copy/paste audio across apps?

AudioCopy is a pain for many reasons. If I uninstall it, will it simplify my ability to move audio from Gadget to Loopy, Cubasis, etc? What apps work with general clipboard?

  • I am looking forward to the variety of answers on this.

This is an awkward feature that could be so helpful if properly produced. Or shall I say, reproduced?

Your guess is absolutely right. Don't be afraid to uninstall AudioCopy. It simply skips the process of going through the AudioCopy app when importing/exporting audio.

  • One of the main disadvantages though is everything is then called general pasteboard.

yep, but to me this is not a huge deal. I think in Gadget I'm up to about "General Pasteboard 406" or something in my pasted folder.

What other apps do you use regular pasteboard with besides Gadget and Ikaossilator?

  • I miss the good old times of iOS with the sonoma pasteboard because it was able to copy 11 (or 12?) things at once. Sadly iOS felt back again to midage and seems stuck here.
AudioShare is the only light here for me....

  • Personally I'd love to see both AudioCopy and General Pasteboard completely replaced by proper usage of the 'iOS-Filepicker' & 'Open In...'. support.

The iOS-Filepicker would make it easier for us to choose where we'd like to import/export our files from/to while 'Open In...' could be used to quickly send a temp-file to another app when there is no need for permanent storage.

Most of us already have some kind of app to manage files with and support for iOS-Filepicker would allow us to access those 'containers' with minmal fuss. (AudioShare, Documents 5, DropBox, Google Drive, and soon FileHub, just a few of the file manager apps acting as FileProviders).

What would make this even more awesome would be if our DAWs could act as FileProviders meaning it would be easy to access files inside say Cubasis, AuriaPro or Gadget directly instead of 'exporting' them to a 'FileProvider app' such as AudioShare.

There is a 'mismatch' in marketing when it comes to iOS technology and the names used in apps.
'iCloud Drive' support is essentially support for the 'iOS-Filepicker', no need to use 'iCloud Services' for the files.

GarageBand is the only app I know of that requieres iCloud Drive to be active on system level in order to gain acccess to the iOS-FilePicker. Guess it's Apple's Guerilla-Tactics to make people fill up the smallish standard iCloud storage-space.

I know, I push iOS-FileProvider support hard, but It's the only logical solution unless Apple decides to implement something better on system-level. Who knows maybe the iCloud Drive app will turn into 'iOS Finder' with direct access to all 'iTunes Shared' folders on the device...

  • General Clipboard, isn't that a character from Catch 22?

not too many I use 'General pasteboard' for - maybe Garageband the odd time. I was referencing the Audiocopy pasteboard above - even though it says "General Pasteboard" in the list of samples imported in Gadget, it's not technically the General pasteboard. gets confusing easily
