Solid Effect Apps
There is a lot of talk about input and output options in AB, I'd like to hear more about effects options to throw in between. What are some good suggestions for multi-effect apps ie. reverb, delay, modulation etc.?
Thanks in advance for the suggestions
Comments
Tonestack (with Motherload expansion). Flux FX.
Is it possible to bypass the amp simulation in Tonestack? I play keys, although amp simulation could be cool for some presets...
best multi-effect app - Turnado,
best delay effect app - AUFX:Dub,
honorable mentions - Filtatron and Tap Delay
I like using Flux:FX, MasterFX, AUFX and Holderness series.
For the reverb, I often use AD 480 pro.
I don't like using Tornado because of it's tiny buttons, but it's true that it's a real monster multi-effects app.
Yes
FLUX + a fectric mucktron etc.
I use both Tonestack and the AUFX stuff--is it my imagination that AUFX feels a little lighter in terms of impact on CPU/memory?
Magellan (the synth) also works in AB effect-slot and includes most 'standard' effects and doesn't sound that bad.
AUFX: Dub And Space
ToneStack Motherlode effects
Echo Pad
AltiSpace
Samvada
Just took a look at FluxFX, this looks amazing! Seems like there are a lot of deep editing options and that it lends itself to live manipulation. I am mainly looking for simple ambience, but this look like it could do that and a whole lot more. Is there a way to toggle the effects slot of AB on and off so I can add the effect only when I want it? Like midi map a controller key to do this? If so, does this cause any audio glitch, or does it trail effects?
I often find myself disappointed with multi FX leaning to the wrong side of crazy. I find now that I tend to use filter FX such as ApeFilter or Flection then add delay and reverb to taste.
The only effects app I have kept on my iPad is Master FX, which is ironic as when I first got it I complained considerably because I couldn’t read a lot of what was on the screen as it was too small to read. Nevertheless, from an audible consideration, if I only had one, this would be it (and a magnifying glass, which I now have).
Reverb, delay: AUFX
Filter: WOW, Apefilter
Modulations galore: Turnado
Weird, cool and free: Frobulator, Nebulizer, Muckraker
I second this recommendation. It is the most solid workhorse on iOS for what I consider the 3 essential effects (delay, reverb, chorus). Quality, and has always been 100% stable for me through Audiobus or IAA.
you can not only turn the effects on and off from the AB strip, you can also choose between six effects right from the AB strip
Ah! Just noticed that On/Off toggle. Thats an awesome feature I overlooked
MasterFX is my favorite app, if I want cooler reverb I add on Altispace after that.
DFX, Kuvert, apeSoft apps, Effectrix, and WOW are some effect apps you might want to look into.
Thanks for the plethora of suggestions folks! Its great that there is such a huge selection out there, but that also makes it hard to narrow down to the really good ones.
AUFX collection would be my first choice.
Duh! To answer the actual question - for multi-effects Tonestack is my fave.
Lots more really as Dedalus, Reverb, ApeFilter, Apedelay, Sparkle etc have some multi FX use too.
Problem is not all FX play nice with others. Effectrix can be a pain with some apps in Audiobus, so can many more.
Flux can hog resources. DFX has been buggy in the past, but may be ok now.
WOW and Turnado can play up in Audiobus with certain apps, while their Auria counterparts seem more stable.
It's just the way it is in iOS.
Out of all the many FX apps I have and use, if you want one multi FX app that seems very stable, Master FX would probably be the one I would choose
Another quick question about effects apps:
I have an X/Y pad on my m-audio code 61 controller. Anyone aware of some effects apps that would 'play nicely' with this?
Depends on which midi signal is the pad transmitting(not always X Y pads are mapped to control changes). If they are CC's almost any fct with mappable controllers will work.
For sequenced things Effectrix is great in the effects slot.
I pretty much stick to AUFX and Holderness apps. I occasionally use JamUp, Tonestack and Samvada.
Turnado is awfully fun but it's pretty much an instrument in and of itself. Used subtly, I don't think it sounds all that good.
It could be great. I'm having lots of problems getting some half decent clock sync
never heard of samvada. or don't remember anyway.
thanks.
It's the best deal in the entire App Store.
