App for MIDI FX

Hey, I'm looking for an app that specializes in midi effects like in ableton live's midi effects section. Something for turning single notes into chords (like in ChordPolypad, which is great), arpeggiating them or not, with possibilities to limit effects to certain scales and split incoming notes into different channels etc, also with a gate function that would restrict incoming or outgoing notes to a particular range of notes, velocities or note lengths... A midi harmonizer would be really awesome as well. I think many of these things could already be done with combinations of midiflow, ChordPolypad and arpeggiators or midi sequencers but I'd really love to have it all in one convenient app, where you could save complete setups and recall them instantly. I like how Ableton live has the possibility to group and chain all kinds of midi effects to create just about anything you could possibly want. I would buy an app like this in a heartbeat! Or is there already something close to that out there?

The gist was Midisequencer has some built in midi effects, but processing live midi input isn't quite what it is designed for (no note off messages received, I believe). The developer was working on a standalone version, which sounded really cool.

  • Thanks @Processaurus, that sounds promising! I hope it's coming soon.

  • Sounds a lot like Midiflow already :) I'm working on a Chord Processing module right now, and other effects like delay are on my list, too. What would be your priority list?

some type of randomized spacing to make the chords sound natural would be great

Since you're asking... I love the chord mode on old Baldwin FunMachines. On the lower split one finger == major chord. Two fingers=minor chord based on the lower finger (upper doesn't matter). Three fingers = M7, again based on the lowest note and the 2nd and 3rd don't matter. Four fingers = m7, same as above. It's incredibly intuitive to actually play. With software, the 4 chord types could be changed as well as the split point and midi destination.

Chords are fun but my personal priority would definitely be easier 'white keys only' mode ala Thumbjam. You can do it in MIDIFlow now but it's a bit of a bear to set up. I just wanna select from like 20 preset scales and 12 keys (default to C) and force all white keys to conform to that scale.
