Flicker, New Album From Doug and The Sound Test Room

Flicker is an album of 4 long pieces of music that have their roots in the more vintage style of electronic synthesizer music from the 1970's that was made by the likes of Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis etc etc.
These are the artists that influenced me when I was growing up and getting into music.
But its also an original and interesting work in its own right.
It was also a very comfortable recording experience for me making long evolving pieces, very therapeutic and relaxing.
While Flicker is not a relaxation or ambient album as such it is very easy to get lost in the music if you listen with headphones, which I would highly recommend for a complete listening experience.
I guess if you like synths you'll probably like this.

  • My influences too. I used to have stacks of TD, JMJ, V etc all on tape. So I may have to listen to your new album with some added wow and flutter ;)

  • I'm thinking you will probably like it then, please review it

  • Nice, having a little preview listen, it certainly evokes the artists you mention. Full review to follow!

I am guessing Cubasis or Auria were used given the linearity of the song structure. Any notes on what you used available?

  • I can't see well enough to use iOS DAW's at the moment so the whole thing was recorded in Cubase

I did use iOS synths also but recorded them into Cubase.

Here is a general list of gear used

Sylenth1, Falcon, UVI Workstation, Nave, SampleTank, Obscurium, Halion Sonic, ORBIT, Arturia CS80V, Mitosynth, Thor, ewql Ghost Writer, ewql Twisted Textures, ewql, The Dark Side, ewql Symphonic Choir, ewql Goliath, SynthMaster, Korg M1, ewql Symphic Percussion, ewql StormDrum, Evolve Mutations, Sonic Projects OBX, Magellan, Galileo.

  • Thanks for that Doug, a fun project! Hope the vision issues clear up soon.

  • Lovely, I really enjoy this type of stuff. Great work and keep pumping out quality stuff like this.

  • Thanks, I am most happy when making this kind of stuff

It's a lovely way to relax making this type of music. I love just jamming with friends, seeing where the tracks take us. Would love to record a larger group of people jamming with iPads, euroracks, guitars, bass, keys all just coming in as the track travels through different stages. Recorded noodlings :)

  • Great stuff Doug, congrats on a fine release. :)
