Will an Iphone 4 work for making music?
Hello,
I was thinking about getting an Iphone 4 in order to make music on the go and use as an ipod. I own a 32gb 4g ipod which is as good as obsolete in this day and age. The Ipod 5g im not sure is good enough to make music and it is costly. However I see an Iphone 4 and 5 online for a good price and was considering getting it so I don't even have to bring around my ipad if I don't want to. This way when I get ideas for beats I can start making them with no worries.
The apps I will be using are Beatmaker 2, maybe some synths(sunrizer, animog, thor, alchemy, imini), audiobus(for sure), impc pro, tabletop and Gadget which I see now is able to be used on phone.
I don't really plan to use the actual phone right away but eventually might and will put something like Simple mobile or one of those other 30 dollars a month phone plans on it. I'm also considering getting an Iphone 5 if I can get one under 300 bucks.

I wouldn't get an iphone4.
It's stuck on ios7
It doesn't have Bluetooth le.
The A4 processor is kind of slow.
Okay what about Iphone 5? Also what do you mean stuck on 7? You can't update it?
I would say that an iPhone 4 its just to old to get it now, if you have it already and wish to keep using it then its fine but now its a five year old hardware stuck in iOS 7.1.2 a two year old OS. And while iOS 7 was a good iOS version there's a lot of new stuff just not available for that software/ hardware combination. (Gadget recommends iPhone 6 and iOS 8 is necessary to run it for example), I would go for the iPhone 5.
Also some of the apps you mentioned are iPad only (Thor, tabletop, impc pro, imini)
Just got a new iPod Touch 32gb for a backup and as a more portable option. I don't think these are too much more than the iPhone 5's are going for?
to begin if you havent one not less then 4s.....cause of BT LE and App Support...with the iphone4 you could run many apps yes but only ONE! NO AB if you wanna use it as a FX a "little" FX like Filtatron, ToneStack with 2-3Modules....thats it....
Don't get one. I still have mine. It gets very warm just by using ThumbJam alone. Not even good for games. Ok for a phone only, & maybe as an iPod. But that's all. Save up & get a iPhone 6 & up. I'm waiting until the battery dies a death before I upgrade. It is a tough old phone tho.
I would put the minimum that I would buy now as 5s. Increasingly apps are 64bit only.
That said my 4s still gets some use as a Bluetooth keyboard transmitter and my 4 sits happily in airplane mode in my radio alarm's dock.
^ this.
5s is a big jump in processing power, totally worth the initial investment if you are getting a new device.
I released a few tracks made in Nanostudio and other apps on an iPhone 4. It worked well for me.
I hear you and thanks for your advice. I guess I would get a 6 because I really want to use gadget and I see some on sale for 4oo something but at that price would it be better and cheaper to get the ipod touch 6?
Are they specs similar?
Damn, thanks for letting me know. I didn't even get to look into that.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to the thread!
IS the new ipod more powerful though?
Damn sorry to hear that man. Guess I won't get one than and consider a different option. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Oh so a 5s would be sufficent enough? or just a bare minimum with still some lagging and issues here and there?
Same questions as above.
+1 for the 5s if you want to save some money. It has almost the power of an Air 1 which is still good (enough)by todays standards.Gadget runs fine on it.
Thanks I guess that settles it. I see some for a good price and plus it has the cellular which I would probably getting into using evetually.
This leads me to ask which one do I buy. Im thinking 16gb is enough..maybe.
but I want to use straight talk and I see phones that have GSM and CDMA. Do you know which one I should get. or do I need a phone that is unlocked or jailbroken or whatever.
P.S I want to use it with straight talk when I do get into using it for cellular service.
comparison about HOW MUCH faster the 5s to an iphone 4 is.And that's just a single core (5s is dual core).

Thanks a lot man!
Aim for an officially unlocked one. Jailbreaking is a whole different thing. Some people like it. But it CAN brick your phone if you're careless with iOS updates before they crack the new one.
Get as many GB as you can afford! Or be prepared for lots of hot app swapping.
Yep,don't get the 16GB.Seriously,you will regret it after a short while Should be at least 32GB.
My first iOS device was a 16gb iPad mini(the original), it worked for me as long as I almost only used gadget at first.
When I introduced auria (or any daw dealing with audio tracks ) it became very frustrating
Now I replaced it with a 32gb, and it's still on the short side ( no game/music or movie alowed), I have to backup audioshare every month in my laptop
Will do and thanks. Found out I need a GSM one too/Verizon 4g lte one which can be used on GSM with LTE too such as AT and T. Those are compatible with Straight talk and Simple Mobile sims as well. Appreciate it man.
I'll think about it but I do have an ipad as well and a laptop for when I need more space and to back things up too. It's just with my music library I might need the 32gb indeed.
Good news, I might bid for one on ebay and get a 64gb iphone 6. Wish me luck y'all!
Good luck.
!
dito!
A thrifty and intrepid friend of mine was using an iPod touch as a cell phone of sorts, and he could get phone calls and texts over wifi, at home, work, the bar, etc., most regular places. I think the service was $10/month. There were free ones but this one came with a real phone number. Pretty cool option if money is real tight, or the need for a cell phone just isn't compelling.
Really, what is the name of the app.
I currently use an app on my iphone called text free that gives me the ability to do free calls and a number as well. However it's too old and the app is not that crystal clear. You can watch adds to get minutes ot buy minutes as well. I would consider getting the ipod touch 6 but it won't be enough because eventually I want cellular service.
Sadly I didn't get the phone yesterday but will keep trying!
Got an Iphone 6 128gb for 508...more than I wanted to spend but now I can get to making music on the go!
I'm so excited! Thanks to those that wished me well!
Nice one. But think of this, if you bought the iPhone 4 you would of regretted it, for its restrictions. Now you do music with far less restrictions, & you got 128gb. Nice one mate.
Look forward to hearing your 1st project
Ps don't become an appaholic leads to endless dithering !
