Routing iPad app audio into individual channels in a DAW

Scenario - I have an app like Attack drums and I want to run each channels into a separate channel in Ableton. What would be the best way to accomplish this?

I have a Komplete Audio 6 sound card, and I connect midi 2.

In my current set up I can record the entire loop into one channel. However, I think it would be much easier to treat each sound separately.

  • Since Attack and many other drum apps do not have separate outputs at software level you'll need to solo each instrument and cycle them while recording.
In my opinion though it would be much better if you manage your sounds in the box so the sound tends to be much more coherent. And if you need the kick drum to side chain a pad you can solo record the kd from attack, parallel processing the whole attack rec with a lp filter to isolate Kd or create a ghost track not routed to the master out.

  • @mschenkel.it lol sorry just seeing this now!. Thanks :), Now I just record manually each instrument into Ableton using iconnect. Not a big deal

Or buy Ruismaker which is an AU instruments meaning you can have multiple instances. Even one for each of the drums sounds. Then use studiomux or host in modstep. I had this combo going last night. Check the ruismaker thread. There's some great examples.

(Attack is an unusual example - it has Attack A and Attack B, which are discrete midi and audio channels. If you use an IAA based app to connect your devices (Audrieo) you can avail yourself of both A and B, which can be set up in Attack to group the 24 drums In two sets, or send all 24 drums on one channel as a kit and a selected single synth voice on the other to be played across the keys, or send two distinct voices, or someother combination there-of)

I'm familiar with Ruismaker but have tried to hold off on buying it. I have about 20 drum type apps already lol. However, I have heard good things about it so i might check it out. Thanks :)

Hi Doug :D lol .Thanks I'll check this out as well. I have Attack but haven't used it as much as I should. For drums, iMaschine is my weapon of choice.

I've got every drum app as well. BUT Ruismaker for me has a certain sound. It's so easy to use. It's now my go to drum app. The randomise button always returns pleasing results. It's because each instrument is perfectly tuned.
