Ivory Mobile Grand in Korg Module – Worth the Money and the 2GB?

I just got Module and love the piano. I’m amazed that I now also have it on my iPhone through Gadget.

As Korg says their IAPs are now 50% off, then $14.99 might be a deal for the Ivory Mobile Grand.

Now they say that it’s from “the same source recordings of their acclaimed Ivory II Grand Pianos” which I’m sure is true. But the reason that those pianos cost in the $200-300 range on a computer is that they are insanely multi-sampled. The Ivory II Grand needs 22 GB for all those samples. Clearly the mobile version is not going to sound as good.

But never mind that. Is it worth the $15? Is it worth the space? And if you use it in Gadget does that take 4 GB?

I'm assuming this won't be a new Gadget, just additional sounds in Salzburg.

    Agree with Mister Nick.

I like it better than the built-in Korg Natural Grand. It takes up just under 2GB of storage space.

Also check out IK Multimedia's iGrand, which takes up less space and I like as much or more. In fact, iGrand may be my current favorite iOS piano of all.

  • Lyra in Auria Pro has some nice downloadable pianos too. Clearly if you are playing classical solo piano pieces, you want the best possible sound, but for a piano in a mix, I find that a smaller sampled piano will often suit the music better than a multi-GB one.

  • @philw I'm happy with the Lyra pianos in a mix. But when I play music for fun I like to have guitars I like playing and the best piano I can get. For years that has always been the Reason Pianos Refill. (And I paid $130 for that.)

@Lady_App_titude Hmm... iGrand was $9.99 until yesterday and is back to $19.99. I have until tomorrow to get the deal on the Ivory. I think I will do it.

Also Ivory has the advantage of being available in a Gadget, which is nice.

    Thanks for the advice, everybody!

  • I got it and I definitely think it's worth the money, so thanks again.

One thing that's odd is that under "Storage" in my iPad settings it says that Module (including Ivory and Triton) is only 1.2 GB, which I think is what it was before I installed those two IAPs.

yep, that is correct, they hide the IAP data outside module in a shared space with gadget

  • Is it possible to use Korg Module (Ivory) and multitask? I have loads of fakebooks on my iPad, but Module seems to shut off if I go to another app. Using IOS10, not 11.

  • If you're only using Module on Gadget only you can delete Module after it's installed in Gadget.

Module (iPad version) has something called variations which for some reason sound better in Module and aren't available in Gadget... so it's a trade off. The standalone sounds better than the gadget but then you can't use Gadgets sequencer.

Check the app settings in the Apple settings for Background Audio in order to prevent Module from shutting down.
