KORG Module Set

Seeing as this forum seems to be the defacto hub of all things iOS audio, I hope it's ok if I link to a thread for the community to chime in on.

Thinking this is something others would be interested in. If not, that's ok, I'll just be over here alone with the crickets.

    1. Yes! Universal with all sound libraries FTW!

  • Universal all the way, for iElectribe too even though I have both.
I never really understood the dedicated iPhone version of Module.

  • I use my iphone 6s for some live jamming with rhodes, b3 and synth patches. I do this by firing up gadget. It would be way cleaner to be able to use module, but I just don't want to buy it again for the phone when I already have it for the ipad. Universal ftw.

Would you buy it again though? I mean it would be great if Module for iPad went universal, but what I'm suggesting is make a new copy that is universal AND includes all sound libraries. Anyone who just wanted the iPhone version could pay that price (I assume they're going to fix the Gadget integration, but who knows), or pay more for the current iPad only version and optionally the extra sound libraries. Or buy KORG Module Set and get everything. That last option would be great for someone like me who hasn't bought any previous incarnation and just wants one price with no headaches. But if you're saying you'd actually rebuy it to have an all-in-one, well then that's a very strong endorsement indeed!

    KORG Module Set
    Make it a set!

  • Including all sound libraries would make it too big and still too expensive in one hit, so I voted no.

I respect that! Would you still vote no if the two existing flavors remained as is (which is my suggestion, as unruly as their app store listing would be)? Or would that somehow chafe still?

  • It's a great idea in principle, but I don't think they're finished adding to it yet.
If they rolled it up right now any future expansion would be back to square one with pricing.

Module as an Audio Unit though................mmm

  • I think I'd change my answer. I don't think you want to get into a model where you have a ton of different packages (so the original two and then a complete pack). I'd like the base app to be universal, but I don't think everyone needs the ivory piano (At 2 gigs) I use it for studio tracks, but if I was just doing cover band work then the included acoustic will more than handily sit in a mix. Same thing with the wurly, as much as I love the more earthy wood sound of a wurly vs a rhodes (although I'm not itching to get out my soldering iron to tune a wurly ever again), if I'm doing a non-mission critical set, I can fake it with a rhodes patch and the right amount of trem dialed in.

But as an app, not getting into what sounds should be included, the app should be universal, and the iaps should transfer between devices.

Besides, you still have to sit there and wait for things to download, what's the difference between getting stuck watching that initial download circle when you first buy the app vs. doing it later in the iaps after you've gotten to jam out for a bit.

Yes, if nothing else KORG needs to make the app universal and the IAPs downloadable without any other device than the one you want to use at the moment. This is entirely possible for them to do!

I think if Apple would provide a standard mechanism for downloading IAPs that worked reliably in the background, and were separate archivable files in iTunes on the computer, then the whole add-on business model would snap into focus. As it is IAPs are a minefield. Each developer has to implement their own mechanism, and none of them are good (that I've seen). I haven't bought Module, but in the case of Gadget the only reliable way I found to get the IAPs to download was to sit there and tap the screen (so the device wouldn't go to sleep) until the download was finished. I was sitting on a 50Mps connection, but their end didn't seem up to it. That's just silly from an end user perspective. So if Apple really want IAPs to be deliverables (as apposed to virtual coins and that whooha) then they need to pony up in the server and API department. Then devs can just compile their app with the add-ons uploaded as separate signed binaries that are as simple to distribute as the main app. The downloads could occur in the background, making user's lives easier. I mean, hell, Apple should make it possible from an Apps buy button to just click buy it with everything that's out right now. Now there's impulse buying! I digress though. With the current state of affairs I'd rather see a roll up than fiddle around with IAPs.

  • @srcer Temporarily turn of Auto lock is possible, as an alternative to tapping the screen ...

Yeah, the price would have to include the roadmap of future add-ons. If KORG didn't want to outline that, then it would be harder for anyone to pony up the money now. If they were forthcoming, I'd be a taker. Maybe I just don't know crap about audio at this point (I really don't) but how many more piano sounds could there be?

    +1 to AU :)

7 more, or if you're IK that 7 becomes 56 new sounds. ;-)

Next time warn me in advance, just woke the wife up at 1am laughing.
Yeah just stick a phaser/Chorus/distortion/flanger/tremolo/auto pan/EQ/echo/reverb/batron indicator on it and call it a new instrument.
