AudioCopy Launches iDS-10 (and other apps)

I've read this across a few different threads, and, in some of them, readers seemed to think that it was an isolated incident affecting only that one person, so I want to get the word out: there appears to be a bug in the AudioCopy SDK that causes unrelated apps to be launched when AudioCopy features are accessed (copy or paste). For a few of us, iDS-10 is being launched. No idea why it chooses iDS-10 (at first I assumed that it just picked whatever app I'd most-recently installed or something, but it looks like a lot of people are getting iDS-10), but I guess that, when iDS-10 is deleted, it'll pick another app to launch.

I've had this problem while using a few different apps, so it's not a bug related to any particular app, and I imagine that it isn't an iDS-10 bug, since... it seems like it'd be a security issue for it to just be able to hijack AudioCopy at will. To me, it seems like it must be a bug in a recent update to the AudioCopy SDK for apps that are using that version.

To be clear, whenever an app wants to copy or paste audio, an iOS9 prompt will come up saying, "[...] wants to open iDS-10." Whether you let it open or decline, copying and pasting will work as normal, but, if you accept, damn is it annoying; iDS-10 will take focus and start up, and you have to switch back to the app that you were working in -- and, if you accept it once, it doesn't bother to ask, again, and will steal focus and start up any time that you copy or paste anything (in the app that you approved it for).

If you're having the problem, please chime in. Any ideas on how to get a hold of someone that'd be interested in hearing this, please let me know. Thanks.

  • I assume you've already sent an e-mail to support ( a ) retronyms.com describing the issue?

I've personally not had any issues with this at all and yes, I do still have Audiicopy.app installed and use it quite frequently to copy & paste sounds.

  • I experience the issue as well...

  • I sent a bug report to Korg via korgusernet.com and got a response back saying they will look into the issue.

In the meantime I have gone back to the previous version which I had stored in a Mac Time Machine backup.

I have this issue too and have e-mailed retronyms.

I was hopeing yesterday's update would have solved it but it didn't.

Have had a reply from retronyms, but it just said have you tried rebooting your iPad. So I replied that I had and that it was still happening. No further word from them.

Would be good if everyone emailed them.

I'm pretty sure it's an iDS10 bug. I've never installed the AudioCopy app on any of my devices (I've always just used the General Pasteboard) but after the latest iDS10 update I started getting this bug. Deleting iDS10 has fixed it and I can now AudioCopy and Paste without any issues.

I deleted ids10 and I get the same issue with mixtikl

That's pretty weird, because I don't think it's an iOS bug, since I'm still on 8.4 and this issue has only cropped up very recently.

I had the issue with Mixtikl before I bought ids10, now I have it with that.

If I can send something to the app it's happening with via Open In, it works fine until I close the app down.

I've only got iDS-10 and use it sometimes for 'stuff'. I don't have the mixitkl.

Since I'm 'unforounately' unable to reproduce the issue I can't provide any helpful assistance.
What we all (or at least those who are affected by this issue) can do is to forward a link to this thread to Retronyms and maybe someone from there will pop up and take notice.

I was actually quite surprised when I got a reply within 24 hours :)

  • I think this is an Audiocopy sdk issue and so Retronyms needs to fix.

I get this on two ipads running 8.4 and 9.1 and I don't have audiocopy app installed but it happens with all apps which use the audiocopy sdk

For me it wants to launch Mixtikl. I contacted Mixtkl devs initially and they said they had done everything at their end they were supposed to.

If the 'problem' with the AudioCopy SDK is not solved it will result (hopefully) in more developers start to drop AudioCopy support and opt for using standard iOS ways of sharing files ('Open In..','Share Sheet' and 'iCloud Drive').

  • Is AUDIOCOPY not working on IPHONE 6+s for anyone else?

I cannot even open it since last week or so?

    Fine on IPAD, not IPHONE?

If it's a '6S/6S+' it could be related to the 'sample-rate' issue.
Attaching headphones defaults the 6S/6S+ to 44.1Khz, while without headphones it's 48K.

AudioCopy is very much focused on 44.1Khz 16-bit for all operations.

  • Throw AudioCopy and Flash in the same shallow grave

  • I've just sent a report to retronyms support (thanks, @Samu) describing the issue and including a link to this thread. Please continue to communicate here if you have anything else to note or if you're a user experiencing this issue that hasn't posted, yet.

Thanks for the report. We got 2 people who wrote to us about this issue specifically with Korg iDS-10, so thank you if you reported that to us. I tried it out for myself and it is definitely a bug. Im not sure yet if its in our SDK but it seems like it probably is. Either way we want to get to the bottom of this.

A few of you mentioned that it opens another app. Aside from Korg iDS-10 and Mixtikl what other apps are each of you noticing this issue with? Please send them to me at [email protected].

For now, install AudioCopy to fix the issue until we get an update out.

And please, for any future issues you find always send us an email with as much details as you can. Thank you!

  • And what if Audiocopy is already installed? :)

    Meaning uninstall?

What I think is meant is to un-install and re-install in order to reset the 'App IDs'.

  • Anyway it is not working

    Been there done that.
Deleted ids-10. Got it loading mixitkl7.
    Deleted AC and reinstalled it
    Still loading mixitkl
    Reloaded ids-10
    AC reverts to loading ids-10

Not going to delete all my apps one by one till it maybe stops happening!!!

  • This thread is hilarious. LOL.

  • Seriously, why can't all apps just use the 'Share Sheet/Open In..' to export their stuff?
(And apps that support certain file-types should let the system know that making 'sending' easier).

One of the reasons I do not like AudioCopy.app is that it insists on saving all the files I 'AudioCopy'.
Sometimes I just wan't to transfer a 'clip' from one app to another with no desire to 'save it'.
Support for ShareSheet/Open In... would solve this and enable sending a file directly to the receiving app.

Maybe the AudioCopy SDK could include an option for 'Open In...' so it would be possible to intercept the copy operation and not be forced to save the file in AudioCopy.app and still be able to send it to app of our choise?

  • So... I'm guessing there's not real fix for this? Audiocopy/paste keeps wanting to open Mixtikl. I don't even have audiocopy installed. Really aggravating.

  • Are there any other apps besides iDS-10 and Mixtikl that do this? Seems to me like it's the individual apps and improper implementation of the Audiocopy SDK, rather than the Audiocopy app itself.

Anyway the problem comes from AC whether the apps listen or not to a faulty request

I my case... problem seems to be fixed. I don't have iDS-10, but I do have Mixtikl. I just deleted Mixtikl.. did a audio copy/paste from Audioshare into Samplr like I was trying to do, and it went fine.

Then, I reinstalled Mixtikl, and it's still fine. Doesn't auto assign the copy/paste function to Mixtikl anymore.

Has anyone tried simply deleting BOTH Mixtikl and iDS-10. Do a simple copy/paste like I did... then reinstall the apps? Worked for me... for now.

UPDATE: I was wrong. The next time I went to audiocopy/paste it went back to launching Mixtikl. I must've just "copied to Samplr" from Audioshare instead of audiocopy/pasted. That's why I thought it'd been fixed. No so.

It worked when both apps weren't on the device but it was all the same when I got em reinstalled. So far I've reinstalled twice ids10, once AC and once mixtikl. There is a goal? Is one of the dis 10 secrets? Like "if you reinstall the app 10 times on your device"
