What's the future of Soundprism?

@Sebastian can you give us a tease what you might be working on? Like is there going to be a Soundprism Pro 2 or something equivalent at some point? I'm just dying for some forward looking news today.

  • The next Soundprism will feel like fifteen years in the same hotel room endlessly rewatching Ice Station Zebra.

    I don't get it. Let's stay positive.

  • The next version of SoundPrism might be an educational version, because more and more schools seem to be using it to teach music theory.

We're also thinking about making the sound engine of SoundPrism into its own synth/sampler, which might or might not have a SoundPrism interface in it.

But we're currently entirely busy with Audiobus 3, which will come out before that.

    Look forward to Audiobus 3.

I would love you to make the SoundPrism engine synth :)

  • That sounds pretty sweet. I'd really really hope you keep the Soundprism interface on the synth/sampler as that is the key strength and selling point imo. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks that.

I don't. Playing sound prism makes sense with full hands on which won't make much sense trying to fiddle with a complex synth if you try to pursue musicality(dunno if this word even exists). Sound prism work so well in my experience because the interface and the workflow are both ultra clean with some sounds that just roll with it.

  • Basic piano/playing surface on bottom like most iOS synths. Click a tab to switch to the Soundprism. or you could control it with old soundprism midi out. But how many clicks does that take. Where there's a will there's a way. Doesn't have to be complicated at all. Believe me I'm 100 percent for simple ui designs

@Sebastian Looking forward to AB3. The landscape has changed a little from when you guys started out and that must have made for some interesting conversations as to direction etc.

Actually the direction hasn't changed at all. If you look at the past we first started with audio streaming, then we helped Ableton with Link so we would have a sync solution that works. In between we did Audiobus Remote to extend screen real estate. The next thing feels completely natural and I'm really looking forward to it.

    Spill the beans ;)

  • Here's a vote for the educational version. That would impact a lot of future musicians, I bet!

  • As much as I like SP I'm much more interested in AB3 developments. AUM should be a good source of inspiration...

We've been planning to add a mixer to Audiobus since... forever. We just didn't get to it yet because we have to fix the things that iOS updates break every year, on top of moving from Mac Ports to IAA and then taking with us the whole community.

Lol. I hear ya. Though I still have a soft spot for Soundprism simply because of the interface.
