Battery Pigs - The hungriest music apps

I checked battery usage (iPad Air/ IOS 9.3) for 'Last 7 days' and Modal Pro(Background Activity) accounted for 71%

71% :astonished: and I only purchased it a couple of days ago and used it for maybe an hour. Something seriously wrong there and unfortunately, the Dev does not respond.

In second place was Audulus 3 @ 8%, with far more actual use.

Anyone else checked their 'Last 7 days' and found greedy snouts devouring the battery?

Strange situation....a great app albeit hungry as the beast, with an unresponsive Dev :heartbreak:

Thanks Guys, the power pig list of shame:

  1. Modal Pro (71% pigfest over 7 days)
  2. AudioCopy (due to news ticker..still a problem?)
  3. Launchpad (due to ?)
  4. Samplr (can be pretty hungry when left in the background while not in use)
  5. Gadget (42 % over 48hr period and allows iPAD to double as a heater)
  6. Rock Drum Machine (? )
  7. Ispark (?)

  • Haven't opened it in a long while (so perhaps they fixed it) but the AudioCopy app was notorious for this at one point.

No, I've just had it run down the battery on my iPod Touch a couple times when it was loaded but not playing.

  • I agree with gadget being a "pig", it almost halves the average battery use;

I'm using it more and more as a loop/cool riff maker, instead of finishing tracks in it, to feed samplr, loopy and now AUM, it's still the most powerful and versatile app in the Apple Store, so no pb for me

Yes AUM has led me in this direction also. Weird, because of course you can chop out bits of Gadget into (say) Auria, but I find it easier on the flow/more motivating for now in AUM.

I was so tempted by Gadget the last 2 times it's been on sale...but having so many hardware synths and cool iOS synths...it just feels on the wrong side of chaos/ variety to me...liking mixing everything ITB through the same converters.

It does feel good having a tool like AUM now, to reign in some of that chaos...if only it could stream to PC, like Studiomux (Mac has IAA)....just so much nicer having a big screen to record/mix in real time (actually I think Microsoft needs to get IAA as a service in Windows somehow)

My favorite part of iOS is as a patch editor/ controller for hardware (Midi Designer, Lemur etc) and I'm going to have a crack with 'Sysex Base' as the hub for all patch storage

  • Ispark. Ouch. Let it sit in background last night by mistake. She sure is pretty tho!

  • Gadget - by a long way, but I use it a lot. Heats up the ipad nicely as well :)

  • Yup Gadget could drain our batteries every three hours and we still won't give it up. It really is that good.

And the sound is absolutely great as well.
