Was Auria actually using "Audiio Units" all along?

I haven't heard this point discussed yet.

Comments

  • AFAIK, it was another technology. Not AU - if it was, Rim could make Auria Pro would load current AU apps without hassle. Could be VST, maybe, but I'd bet a proprietary format.

  • Nothing to discuss. They use their own format of plug ins not AU.

  • I don't think that at core many desktop/mobile softwares are much different. It probably "just" a save as. Which simply isn't "just" but will involve a lot of thinking and changes, starting from multitouch to whatsoever. But I don't know a shiz, I'm just guessing.

How is the program different is what I guess I am asking?

The similarities for all intensive purposes are evident.

So, what function of this proprietary code is so special?

If it is proprietary, I would assume they have licensed it to others?

More over, what was needed by Sugar Bytes or Fab in writing these?

If it was just plug in, then wouldnt all plug ins essentially be easy to Xfer?

    Exactly.

Some of us like to know everything.

This seems to confound me. Apparently, more than just me.

I thought there might be some wizard of smart to provide the intro.

  • Not trying to be a smart ass but use google and search for "Auria plug in format" and you might find your answer.

  • Rim wrote basically a kind of VST plugin wrapper.Makes it easier for other companies (like fabfilter) to port them.

  • "Auria is a variant form of the English name Aura. Auria is also a variant form of the English, German, Italian, Polish, and Romanian name Aurelia."

  • All of the functional IAPs are part of the code for Auria. Just like AUM or Audiobus can have parallel instances (channels within the apps), Auria can run more than one instance of effect or instrument. The plug-in do use a "wrapper" that allows VSTs to work with minimal reworking for iPad, but they are all actually part of the Auria code.
