Volca sample controller app. iap question.
So this this app is amazing. Your can make the volca sample into a melody usb midi thing if you got the cables. Now they added some great looking iap like cc control and volca bass support. Just checking and letting yawl know this sick app is out there. But anyway has anyone tried the new iap? Thanks yizal,
Oh fyi: I bought the usb key iap and it works, just the app website is sketch and in Chinese with almost no info about it...
Hails to such a great idea if all these iap's work out! Im thinking they will....

@oceansinspace - Did you just post this yesterday? That's amazing - I bought the app and found this with the search feature on the same day. I was looking for information about the app, but found only a comment section on Discchord where a bunch of people complained about the app upon initial release, then the developer (I think he's from Singapore) showed up weeks later and Tim Webb ripped him for arguing that a certain USB-to-MIDI cable didn't work on iOS. Subsequent to that, however, he's done a bunch of work on the app, and added IAP's for the other Volca devices.
Anyway, it'd be nice to have someone to bounce discussion off of as to how you use the app and what actually works. Here's the app link, for starters:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/volca-sample-keys-bass-beats/id1029973310?mt=8
$0.99 for the initial install, but that's a little deceptive, since virtually all of the features require $1.99 IAP's (including the ability to use with the other Volcas). I plan to try one or two out to see if they actually work before plunking down for the others. Perhaps we can divide and conquer a bit, haha.
Here's what I'm working with:
Volcas: Sample, Keys, and Bass (do not have the Beats)
Interface: Griffin Studio Connect 30-pin (with DIN MIDI in/out)
MIDI Controllers: Akai MPK Mini 25 (USB); Korg nanoKEY2 (USB); CME Xkey 37 (DIN or USB)
iDevices: iPad2 and iPhone6s
Some of the Volcas have MIDI functionality that goes beyond what you can actually do on the device. For example, I believe the Bass and Keys are both velocity-sensitive, and there are gate controls for sequencing, etc. The app appears to provide these controls using CC mapping, but you can do it with MIDI apps, as well, such as ModStep.
The USB keyboard control perked my attention, but I went out and got the Xkey 37 instead to plug directly into the Volca Keys and Bass, since it has 5-pin DIN output. It also wouldn't work unless I set up a USB hub out of the CCK, which I don't have.
Does pitch control on the Sample Controller app actually work? One of the IAP's advertises Sample polyphony, but this is confusing to me, since the Sample can already play 8 parts (I think) simultaneously. You can sequence chords by setting three different parts to the same sample and pitching them differently. My understanding was that each "part" on the Sample was mapped to a different MIDI channel, which was kind of a maddening decision.
Since I'm a gigantic nerd, I even made a mini-placard for the back of my Volca Sample with all 100 sample names and reminder on note relationship to middle-C for pitching steps from -24 to +24 semitones
The pitch was wonky on the apps vid demo. When I tried tho it worked in tune! It works just takes mucking about... so far so good
@oceansinspace - cool! I may try the bass and key controller IAP's
But I guess my issue with the app is that I don't want my Volcas handcuffed to an iDevice...unless it's sequencing or doing something extra the device can't do itself.
Yeah you link up another midi controller so you have" real keys" for volca. Also more CC are available with bigger knobs or whatever setup you rockin. Im still playing around.
