Beat Step 1/8 to Midi Adapter Replacement
Hi All,
I need a replacement BeatStep 1/8 to Midi Adapter, lost mine after a live gig. A original replacement from Arturia is only $8, but the shipping cost is a whopping $30!!, GREEDY ARTURIA! A lovely way to screw over a loyal customer. Anyway, I'm so pissed off I'm looking into making my own adapter & sharing the way to do this with all the BeatStep owners. Its just a matter of time that someone will lose their adapter & be in the same position of buying one at the ridiculous price of shipping that Arturia wants.
Just need to know if the 1/8 plug is a simple mono plug- just tip & sleeve (2-wires) or tip, ring & sleeve (3-wires). A closeup picture of each end of the adapter will be great.
Thanks All,
V

It's just a 1/8" TS, but you'll have to find the pinout scheme that Arturia uses... Lots of step by steps if you google midi pinout...

$3 and free shipping?

I'm not sure if the TRS will work... I have one I could try later...
I read on another forum that the 1/8 mono jack is wired as: tip going to pin 4 of MIDI din & sleeve to pin 5. Pin 2- ground, does not seem to be used.
Beware, the Amazon Kenable adapters are not wired correctly as MIDI.
Also, please do not plug a stereo 1/8 jack to the BeatStep MIDI out- may cause serious harm to the unit.
Why? Why not just wire the ring and the sleeve together? Is there something I'm missing? Or are you just referring to the 1/8 stereo to MIDI adapters out there, which are obviously not the right wiring?
Elsewhere it seems that the following is the correct wiring: https://imgur.com/ZzUiBOb
[though it might be flipped]
You could just wire 5 to both ring and sleeve, couldn't you?
