What are all of the beat machine apps that do Sample Layering?
I know ispark does, what else does?
Comments
Bm2 but only in keyboard part.
I think isequence does too but I can't remember if it does it in the drum sampler?
Drum perfect pro?
KORG Gadget Load up a few instances of Bilbao, or London stack samples for days. You can load your own samples as well.
also I think that new iSpark demonstrated by Jacob Haq.

yep, Ispark was mentioned but looking for other apps that allow sample layering without using multiple instances of the app or a module?
This
does drum perfect pro have round robin based on random (not velocity) ?
DrumPerfect Pro can have up to 4 samples for high velocity and 4 for low velocities per instrument. Each instrument consist of 2 "limbs" like left hand ( or foot ) and right hand ( foot ). Which brings the total of samples to 16 max, per instrument. For 16 instruments we can therefore have 256 samples loaded.
What it does, is to select randomly ( among the four available ) a low vel sample for lowest velocities. Same scenario for high velocities. And in between, it blends the high and low velocity, randomly selected, samples. There are therefore for each stroke played, one out of the 16 possible blends ( in different mix proportion ) randomly selected. It happens once in a while that one same sample is selected 2 or 3 times in a row, not more. Nevertheless the mix with the other ( velocity ) sample will not be identical but can be rather similar. This combined with the humanize function ( and probability choices ), which slightly alter timing and velocity, make the playing sounds quite natural and " breathing life " . Compared to drum machines that would repeat the same sample per instrument, the result is completely different for the ear. For certain styles of music, there is no need for these subtle variations in sound. So there is complete freedom to create very light kits with just one sample per instrument, bypassing any blending/random process.
Well, that is to say that the best of two worlds is in our hands, with DrumPerfect Pro.
Is this helping clear some doubts?
no doubts
but a question.. is it possible to set the samples to switch randomly irregardless of velocity (without velocity being used) ?
Yes, if you don't use samples for low velocity. It will then play randomly one of the four high velocity samples, whatever velocity are the strokes. Anyway, in any case it will play samples randomly..... unless of course there is only one sample in the instrument...
thanks Gilbert this is great!
