@MatthiasD Congratulations on your effort here.
Would love midi in support. This is screaming for MPE control from the likes of the Seaboard RISE;)
Love the sound as it is. Great work by the developer on this.
I would love to see someone play a fast violin solo. It is probably meant for slower melodies.
Bought it! It's really really nice. Congrats and many thanks to the developer.
Dimitri.
Could the number of strings sounded (including open strings) not be controlled by the number of fingers used for 'bowing'? One finger, one string; two fingers, two strings, etc. I'm not a violinist so excuse me if that suggestion is impractical.
EDIT: on reflection, although multifingered bowing may be a useful new feature (if it's not already implemented!), I realise it doesn't solve the issue mentioned. I'll get my coat
Sound extremly realistic!
Unfortunately my skill to play this isn't that good though... Yet...
Recommend it to everyone!
Hey, @MatthiasD, a feature request: is it possible that somehow in the future it has MIDI in, so we can trigger it from Auria Pro's sequencer?
All the best!
Impressed with this app. I'm gonnna buy the whole she-bang, it sounds really really good.
I'm impressed, but have had some issues with the app.
Seemed for a while like it had some pulsing effect. Restarted iPad. Redownloaded app. Still there. Then suddenly it vanished as quick as it arrived.
I'm really liking this. The sounds are very realistic, and after playing with it for a while, I bought the standard instrument set.
I've found it works best for me playing with the iPad on a table top, and bowing with my left hand and fretting with my right, which allows me to produce better sounding vibrato. The violin set with the widest note range is my current favorite.
Many Thanks to the developer for a great app!
Add a little quality reverb with a longer cloudy decay, and hey, now you got something!
I'm currently trying to learn King Crimson's Starless.
I just bought the standard instruments as well. I didn't hear a diff. between them and the others? so, what is the difference? But, yes I really like this app. It sounds great, so close to the real strings. At least to me.
Review of FingerFiddle on MusicApp Blog
musicappblog.com/fingerfiddle-review/
Really neat app, thank you!! The physical modelling aspect is intriguing too, how the sound changes based on how close to the bridge you bow, or how fast. I have a feeling it is intended to strive for realism, and not for noise musicians primarily, but i could see some really outlandish sound variations if it departed into the world of synthesis.
I am so thankful finally an app and that features a solo string instrument I like the cello and some jam but still this is much more realistic I have an iPad Air to but have no crackling
Could maybe anybody tell me how to add a reverb effect using garage band as a DAW I am almost blind and that's why I cannot use Auria so many little buttons and knobs
I will never be able to play a violin so this is for me the only way how to play something similar sounding on my iPad it's really great and you have made string instruments accessible for handicapped people at least that is my View
@FeeMalEisBaer Hi! Just go into Garageband and select Inter-App Audio Apps. Select FingerFiddle and you're good to go. You can use the reverb in the app.
If you use AudioBus you can load up FingerFiddle in the first slot, put a reverb app in the center spot and then select GarageBand in the last slot.
Another way to go would be AUM if you use that app.
Bought it and is great app! Plus it's not much CPU hungry (on my Air 1). I loaded it in AUM and 10% CPU usage. It could climb to 30% max , if holding many notes.
Some FR's -ideas
This app is begging for going crazy with guitar fx!
Congratulations to the developers!
Fun! 3D touch make your way to iPad asap
Guys and gals, fun experiment: run this app through a guitar amp sim (Bias, Tonestack, etc.). It becomes something completely different and completely awesome. If you're into that sort of thing.
I play a Godin xtsa MIDI guitar through the Roland GR-55 synth. It has a pretty good cello patch that I love to play, but I think this is even better. My point is a MIDI guitar would really work with this app! I'm going to try it, but I need to get through the holidays first 8^)
Does this app support 3D touch? Doesn't seem to mention it anywhere in the description
Yes. I believe so.
I was a beta tester on a later version of this (the developer, Matthias Demoucron, reached out after I posted this thread) and I remember him asking people to check 3D touch functionality, and I couldn't, because I don't have a device with 3D touch. I assume he wouldn't have put the switches in if he hadn't been able to confirm that it worked.
I have no idea why he didn't list it as a feature. @MatthiasD was it just an oversight?
Thanks! Good to know
Any possibility of MIDI out (like GuitarCapo+) in the future?
@srcer I have encouraged him to add MIDI in as I think a lot of people would find it easier to play if they could use a keyboard to select the notes and then just use their fingers to move the bow.
As for MIDI out, that would be a nice thing for him to add too. But I can understand that he might not want to--he wants to sell IAP. And I want him to make money so he will keep improving the app.
What makes this a great app is that it is a modelled app rather than one which uses samples. So using the IAPs is really the way to get the most realism and musicality out of it.
Any update on adding midi functionality for pitch control @MatthiasD? I just picked up the app and I’m truly amazed by the bowing.
Others have already pointed out how midi pitch control would help make it more playable for lots of us. IMO a huge added bonus would be the possibility of controlling the pitch with a sequencer while controlling the sound with the bow: allowing us to concentrate on getting the expression and sound from the bowing without needing to also deal with pitch in real time.
Yes - the bowing is amazing and irreplaceable but I do find the fretboard part awkward unless I’m using my larger iPad.
Even better with 3D touch....
I struggled with this app until giving up trying to play it properly and going lefty (by switching the frets and bow area in the app settings). Playing the frets with pressure and tremolo with my right hand feels more natural to me, as a non-guitarist.
Five years after the last post, but I figured I’d comment and say that I downloaded this app and thought it was pretty cool, so I got the IAPs and I like them. But I hadn’t looked at the version history. Unfortunately, it looks like it is probably now abandonware, so I guess it won’t ever be AU. Still a good app but a shame that it isn’t being worked on anymore.
Yeah I’d love to see it go AU but it’s doubtful. I mostly just use it to screen record samples to mangle elsewhere which is unfortunate as it sounds great.
