Blocs Wave by Novation – haQ attaQ 130
Blocs wave is a looper that keeps track of the key and tempo in your loops!
There are a a lot of looping apps out there and Blocs Wave by Novation is now one of the newest to hit the AppStore.
Now, this app offers IAP’s (in-app-purchases) in the form of loop-packs in various styles and genres. The interesting thing is how the pre-listenable IAP loops also ties in to the tonality and tempo system. Btw, this system Is in my opinion the strongest point of this looper.
In this tutorial/let’s play I am going through the functions. I am also demonstrating how to import your own loops/samples and categorize them for the loop-library.

Thanks for your tutorial video. Answered a lot of questions. Very well made.
Cheers
Jakob, do you have the horrible Retronyms Audiocopy app installed to get the File out of figure and into Wave, or is that done just by the iOS Audiocopy function?
@gsm909 It works both with and without Retronyms AC app. You don't need it to move files, you can just use the native iOS copy-pasteboard. Well, with any app that supports it of course.
@soundklinik Thank you!
Thx jakob
In the tutorials they mention that Audiocopy app supports the meta data (key and tempo) although unless your exporting app support that also I don't quite get the benefit.
For me this app is the closest thing on iOS to the browser in Sony ACID, where the 'browsed' samples play in key and in time which is what makes it so quick to put stuff together, this will only happen if the meta data for key and tempo exists with the samples (ACID requires ACIDized samples to work)
@j_liljedahl Any chance of getting the meta data functionality added to AudioShare/AUM ?
@LaunchpadForiOS Any chance that we could specify a samples folder (AudioShare/Dropbox) that would be included in the sample browser ?
Audioshare must already have some kind of metadata in it as if I trim a loop by tempo and save it then load it into sector sector knows the bpm and number of beats automatically ...
Also if I name my file with a number like "skram em 88" and import it to Blocs then Blocs picks up the 88 as the tempo.
Actually the only metadata needed is the tempo, which is encoded in the filename as "nnn bpm". By using this and the length of the file, number of beats can easily be calculated.
AUM uses the same mechanism, both for the built-in FilePlayer node, and for recordings it puts the bpm in the filename automatically.
I think having this metadata in the filename is great, because then you can also see directly what the original tempo of a loop is while browsing them, so you know how much it will need to change the speed to match it to the current bpm.
Check the video where he is previewing in the store, where when you preview a sample from a pack, it automatically matches key and tempo to the project you are currently playing.
What else does that ? Imagine being able to browse your own library in the same way. For this to happen we need Wave to support user folders and for the files in them folders (Audioshare ) to have the meta data specified. Yes the meta data could be picked up from the filename. If only ALL apps named files consistently, then you wouldn't have to think about what to name the files, and constantly renaming them if you change anything about the content of that file.
Meta data and a UI to edit it gives a user friendly way of doing this.
