I'm waiting until peeps confirm the update is working, my primary use of the blue board is for expression pedal in Tonestack.
So if I apply this update, does that mean I can use Blue Board to control ToneStack without having to run the Blue Board app?
This what i understand, and thought as i bought it....not nice as i got it and try to recognize that i have to use a propr. App.....
@AndyPlankton which pedal do u use and stereo or monocables for it?.....
Seems like I got rid of my blueboard in time
This update adds support for Apples MIDI over Bluetooth implementation.
Yes, you got rid of it before we added free functionality that opens up a lot of other options and works for most people...
It works for many, and was tested so you shouldn't have a problem but if it makes you feel more comfortable to wait until the few that have reported issues have their issues resolved I fully understand. I'm sure they will keep the thread posted as to how their support tickets get taken care of.
The team tested the update, many units were shipped with this update with zero reported issues for quite a while now, and there are a few issues reported here that will be handled by the team. That seems like best foot forward to me, when put in proper context. But I understand how any minor "misstep" or issue will be amplified on forums as the many that do not have issues aren't likely to post - that's not unique to IK, and is the reason companies like Amazon have programs where they give discounts to certain people in order to get them to review their products (we don't do that, and I personally don't like it). I'm sure the issues a couple of people here are having will be resolved.
Edit - and about the Windows updater, that is due to the chipset in BlueBoard and since there are millions of Windows installs out there, and many Mac users dual boot or use products like Crossover or Parallels, etc, that it wouldn't be a huge issue for most to have access a Windows system to use for the update. If that is not the case for some here, I am sorry to hear that and hope you can find a Windows system to do the quick update.
Thanks for your comments on other products, and about this issue you're having. I'm sure the support team will handle your issue and that of @Johnba soon and that's where you will learn more as we do not do direct tech support back-and-forth over third party forums. The update is available to registered iRig BlueBoard users and those who did not do so and no longer have the serial handy will also be helped by support.
Kidding aside, I got rid of it because I didn't like the switches so nothing to do with the software. Hope it works out for everyone else.
As for the hostility, most of the time it doesn't get used gratuitously on this forum.
Simple solution, if you have a Mac just go buy a pc. I can't understand why it's such a big deal when you got a free update to a driver and firmware. As long as you register the product of course. We wouldn't want you using the driver on a pirated copy of the blueboard.
Customer service is not the issue, it's the fact that the consumer is so dumb.
;-)
Ikmultimedia forgot us appleheads![:D :D](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)
@ Ikmultimedia.
Ikmultimedia has been kind to me when I 've contacted them previously concerning the registration problem of my irigblueboard. The problem has been solved quickly so I'm sure the firmware problem will be solved too. I know it's the week end so I'll probably only get an answer by Monday from your services. Meanwhile...do you know if there is a way eventually to bring the firmware back to the previous one?
Thks for your answer.
Love and patience,
Johnba
I don't know of a way to do so but have asked. It is the weekend though so not sure when I'll hear (and to be honest and not get your hopes up I don't think there's a way to do so without involving support directly). I'll let you know what I hear.
Also - Anybody who can pair the actual BlueBoard unit and their device, but can't use it with apps/applications - you may want to try using the BlueBoard app first to connect that way - this workaround may work for some (worth a shot even if you can't pair directly).
Nobody suggested that, in fact it was not one of the options I mentioned. All I suggested was that you may be able to find a Windows installation that you can use briefly for the update and that many "Appleheads" (who we don't typically forget, we've been accused of favoring Apple users more than the opposite to be honest... Can't blame Windows users as I myself can't stand ASIO4ALL which is where we catch some flak but I digress) also have Windows installed or fairly convenient access to Windows systems. That's all. Nobody called the consumer stupid or said you should buy a Windows system. That may be slightly amusing but is obviously major hyperbole.
And yes, registration is required for this update. If you have some moral or other issue with this or if registering is against your religious beliefs or something like that, support can likely help you too.
Seems any answer or reply I give will just be met with mocking, snark, or some other digs on IK so I do wish you luck with support and hope any suggestions I've made here or they make in your tickets help you. Have fun twisting words and posts I've made in this thread, I hope this will be the last opportunity I give you to do so. People with issues are in the capable hands of support. Have a great day and good luck with your issues (both technical and otherwise).
C'mon. The hardware connects to OS X & iOS but you are supposed to use windows to install the firmware update.
Ymmd
The funny thing is Windows hasn't much use for apples midi over Bluetooth
No hard feelings, have a nice day
Someone forgot their funny bone this morning. If you came to the forum, or any of the iOS forums, to actually discuss things rather than just make announcements and sales pitches, you'd know this is a good bunch with a good sense of humor. I know the announcements are your job, but there's other developers who participate and make announcements, and they seem to be the ones in touch with the actual needs of musicians. You know, the ones that are first? If ik doesn't allow you, then let them know that word of mouth about good products gets spread quickly on the forums.
You come in here, get defensive at the slightest remark, then insult people who have questions. If you want to discuss other issues, feel free, I'm a licensed therapist and would be happy to discuss the patterns of interaction.
When you come in and make a "big announcement" that then doesn't work right, as well as excludes the computers made by the company that also makes the device that the product you're announcing runs on, is it surprising that someone may have something to say about it? That being said, take it with a grain of salt because compared to world hunger and the like it's a minor issue. I don't have the blueboard and don't need it for anything, but as a user of other products from ik this isn't the first tone that this behavior has been observed.
Like the last timex I invite you to participate in discussions here and find that they're usually productive. And if my sarcasm in my original comment didn't come through then I'm spelling it out now that I was being sarcastic and kidding.
Lil off topic: can anyone (pretty please) walk me through how to: just have synth patch changes with the blueboard?! I can rock it with tone stack and switch pedals on and off. Midi learn works on some apps, but like even mapping turnado patch changes seems difficult. THANKS!
Thats real true, thx for your well choosen words @mrufino1.
100% my thoughts.
I like this forum cause of the big respect, constructiv and creativ people here, no trolls or big shouters....and everyone could participate here, if they want, if not....;;-)
It is a bespeco pedal, blue one. Cannot see a model number on it. Mono cable
The Blueboard firmware updater showed failure 70% through the update, but will not now complete the process. (It ways the firmware is already at the latest version.) Does anybody now how to downgrade to an earlier firmware version or reset to factory settings? I have a note into IK Multimedia support too. Device is now unusable.
For having zero reported issues before, this sure seems to be impacting a disproportionate number of AB users! Fortunately, I can't upgrade, given the lack of a PC. Sorry to hear of the others getting their units bricked!
Based on some of the experiences noted here, I would certainly hesitate to upgrade my blueboard. I am though a little unclear if I already have the newest firmware. I bought mine a couple weeks ago. According to IK's website:
"Does your iRig BlueBoard already support MIDI over Bluetooth? Here's how you can tell:
Hold down button A while starting up iRig BlueBoard, if it lights up, you already have the most recent firmware installed and do not need to update. If it doesn't light up and you can only press and hold the D button upon startup for iRig BlueBoard to light up, then the firmware can be updated."
Here's my question. What lights up? The A button? The little bluetooth light? On mine when I press and hold the A button, it lights up for a couple seconds then turns off and the bluetooth light comes on (blinks) shortly after. That happens if I press and hold the B or C button also. The only button it doesn't happen to is the D.
Please forgive my ignorance on this matter but I'm not even sure what the newest firmware gives me. The ability to use the blueboard without IK's app? It doesn't seem like I have that.
The update is definitely so that you can use Bluetooth Midi and not need the IK App.
Sorry, @ikmultimedia - I don't wish to add to what is really growing into a vibrant persecution complex on your end, but I have to say, the criticism that your company dropped the ball by failing to support a Mac firmware path for an iOS peripheral is completely valid. Apple products are a big slab of butter on IK Multimedia's bread.
That said, I hope all issues, including this oversight and bricked blueboards, are resolved quickly and to everyone's satisfaction. Until such time, I assume (hope) that my Blueboard minus the firmware upgrade will continue to work via the Blueboard app? Can you please confirm? Many thanks and best of luck.
Dear Audiobus gang,
A message to let you know that I've had an answer today rom the tech of IK Multimedia. They apologise for the inconvenience and are now working on an update for the irigblueboard app which will allow us to use the unit again. So my advice would be don't do the firmware update now.
Love and harmony,
Johnba
Cheers for the info matey. Let us know what happens, I am holding off for now![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
So does it work without the IK app for you or not? I guess it should show up as a midi source in BT LE enabled apps then when connected and paired.
They answered my ticket too with a link to the fw update but didn't take note of the fact that I wrote I'm on Mac OS...
Same here.
Sit and wait.
My blueboard, which I recently purchased, apparently already has the upgraded firmware. In spite of that, I still can't get to pair with anything without using the blueboard app. I put a support ticket in.
Edit: Interestingly enough (at least to me) I was able to make the iRig Blueboard work without the IK Blueboard app by using midiflow. It recognized and synced right away. I was then able to control any compatible app (except for IK's apps ie. Amplitude and VocaLive) even after completely closing Midiflow.
