Rebirth updated !
Well there's something I wasn't expecting
Comments
Audiocopy and Audiobus sdk updates. No Link this time Maybe soon
Hmm.. Let's see if the export options include some goodies such as 'Open In...' or 'iCloud Drive'
No higher hopes though...
Still my favorite application.
I get a strange 'click' at the end of the exported audio
Excellent, I tried to export a loop yesterday with the Audiocopy button and it shut down as usual, will check the update tonight when I'm home from work.
Edit, couldn't wait ,downloaded the update in work, (gonna be a productive evening), the Audiocopy button works again, after nearly 2 years, awesome stuff Propellerheads!
(But "Rebirth wants to open iDS-10" every time, which I assume is a Korg problem).
I don't have the Retronyms Audiocopy app installed (I don't need all their advertising bs about their loop packs) and Rebirth reports export has failed, but the loop is available to import into Audioshare, via the Pasteboard.
And it still sounds as good as it ever did. Now all it needs is Link , to play nicely with all the other super Linked apps.
@Samu, yes I get a little click at the end of an exported loop, requires editing in Audioshare. That's annoying, but better than nothing, which is what I had before this update.
Wow, I expected to see a "Ha! Just kidding! Made you look!" in here when I clicked on this thread. Great to see Propellerhead hasn't completely abandoned this app.
This is a perfect example of Appaholia's upside. Bought this a thousand years ago and deleted it soon thereafter, but still feel like a getting a little fix when there's something new to look at; even if I end up deleting it. Or not. Would love to hear (@Seangarland, @geremy, @gsm909) a sentence or two on what you like about this in today's iOS world.
I wish they would put out a single standalone 303 in AU. That would be enough for those times you need a little acid in your diet.
I like that it fits on one screen. Apps today are a bit too convoluted. Also still the best 303, 808 and 909 emulation available.
Fair comment guv'nor.
It's not a favorite app of mine by far. But I do find myself drawn recently to these type of self-contained "all-in-one" types of apps (Gadget being my hands-down favorite).
I'm not even especially into 303 acid bass style of music, which is maybe why I like this app more (I know that sounds strange). When I use apps like this, or Rhythm Studio, or the Bassline/MoDrums combo, I find myself making music that I wouldn't naturally make. That's what iOS music has brought to my world. Pre-iOS, everything I would have written and attempted to record would have been guitar-based metal/punk/hard rock music. So, these apps force me to expand myself, which is kind of cool.
Speaking specifically to Rebirth, it is a bit of a pain to use, as the interface is brutal. I'd love to see Propellerhead make an effort to overhaul the interface to make it more iOS-friendly. I don't hold out any hopes of that happening, of course, but it's nice to see them keep it among the living.
Heard and understand Captain. It was the interface that quickly let me off the bothering hook last time out, but I completely get the 'other direction' appeal.
I have a beautiful, pristine flightcased TR-909, and a lovely TB-303 in its original soft carry case. I used Rebirth since v1.0 on a PC (pentium90 I think). And I think Rebirth is still the closest thing to either piece of hardware. The TR-909 is a vintage classic and therefore valuable and fragile, as is the 303, which is a bit of a bitch to program. FingerPro Bassline is close but just isn't quite up there, and I thought 2 days ago when EGDR909 was updated with Link, that it would serve my 909 needs, but again, it doesn't have the same energy as Rebirths 909. It's back at the top of the list...
@Seangarland, I don't think the interface is brutal at all, as a recreation of 4 pieces of hardware (plus all the extras), everything is where it should be, and does what it should do. It is clear and functional in my mind, as it was on the PC.
I love it !
I used to have a TR-808, sold at the start of this century. When I bought it there was a smashed switch and popped capacitor. I cleaned up, replacing switch, chips and components. I had a TR-606, lent to someone, never saw back. I found it too penetrating for my usage. I kept my MC-202 though — still have it here, plus my Korg KMS-30 DIN-sync / Midi converter somewhere, good for tape syncing everything to the Tascam 424 (although the MC-202 could do that too).
Sick, I love it! What is the midi functionality with this again? I think it accepts clock, is that it? The old computer version was all midi and I forget what iOS midi is. Great app, iPhone size is brutal but iPad is ace
@gsm909 Thanks for your enthusiasm. I think I get it a bit better now. Which is the shorthand for 'I still have no idea what I'm really doing and the interface is kinda small, but I just got eight bars going that even make my stolid heart move a little so now I'm prepared to say maybe the app's got a future after all'.
You know, usual stuff.
What it has missing as far as I can tell is a “take the batteries out and quickly put them back in again” feature for the TB-303, which was how most of everything we heard in the ’90s was composed.
I have a question. Does rebirth on iOS allow you to sequence it via midi?
This thread has inspired me to go back and have another play and I like its sound. But like sequencing stuff via midi really.
Dunno. Would like to though.
Hafta say throbbing it through a moving Turnado is proving good to interesting.
Funny as I just used Rebirth for the March Monthly Acid Pattern over at SoundCloud.
Always loved rebirth, had it since v1.0 on PC, programming it is easy once you know how. I've never had a problem with the interface either on iPad or iPhone.
Funny enough, I've never had a problem with audio copy either (iOS 8.3), so I shall refrain from updating if an audio click is present in the latest version's AC.
Nice one. Glow sticks and whistle Blowing in the bedroom.
..and suddenly having a 909, 808, and Two 303s(!) seems like the best idea in the world. Again.
I still have a 909 and a 303 although the 808 was sold a few years back.!
Glad to hear they've not completely abandonded it. In the last 10yr or so I've used Rebirth more than the real mc coys.
Matt_ unfortunately there's no external sequencer control, but there should be plenty of yoututs on how to input notes, if that's the issue ?
Glad they stuck with the distinctly pixelated lo-res graphics on the interfaces O_o
Sarcasm aside, nice to play with the old stuff & the mods give it a bit of sonic variety.
It did get a retina update! Should've gone to specksavers
Maybe it's just me & the ageing peepers. As a child of the 70's, I'm down with the look
Is link planned for it?
Yes ETA , March 2018.
What happened to rebirth for iPhone ?
I doubt it, it took two years for iOS 8&9 compatibility, Link would be excellent , but it works well with Coding Cod , Link to Midi Sync app
