Now & Then: MOST USED "NEW" and "OLD" synth apps?

New: Easy for me. DRC. For me this is no doubt the creme de la creme of synth apps in the last year. It has the power and performance right up there with Z3ta, Yamaha Synth Book, and even some Nave qualities of sound. Heavy parameter modulations and ways to formulate original and strong patches. This app is universal as well. The developer is super responsive and a nice guy as well. His heart is in it.

Old: Another easy one. EGSY01. This is THE MOST UNDER-RATED APP I have ever used. I have all the Ellitot Garage Drum apps and I like them. Mainly due to Universal feature. Anyway. I figured any one who is into the 808 and 909 like this is into a synth sound I would like. I was right. It is one of those 1 page monsters that are great as the 2nd synth on a piece. I mainly love love this app for LOFI, ACID, and DIRTY DOWNTEMPO. I have also used for Drum and Bass and enjoyed it as well.

note: Of course ANIMOOG is used 90%of time as well

I literally just got done using these 2 with ISpark running thru Fieldscraper for an inspiring descent into mayhem and rhythmic shouts of electronic lullabies

How about you?

    How about new SYNTH?

  • Old: Animoog. Especially running bass parts from Fugue Machine into it, lately.

New: Mersenne. My first iceWorks synth. I rather like the arpeggiator on this one.

LORENZT and LAPLACE have same arpeggiators

CASSININ and ARGON also have cool ones that are comparable

    ALL of there apps rock

You may like Cassinni if you like those 2. I think it is cheap.

Not new but newly invigorated - FM4 - I have struggled with understanding FM synthesis for a very long time, where I could grasp the concepts, I couldn't turn that into me knowing what I was doing when trying to program an FM synth. then the other day I watched this video and it all fell into place.

Yeah, I always "liked' the look of that Primal FM app, never gave proper time.

    VIKING -- hell yeah

I just wish Cubasis had the presets available for it.

Besides AUM, what other apps allow for presets?

AS A SIDE NOTE TO ALL, I ALSO WISH PRESETS WERE EASIER TO SHARE WITH OTHER USERS.

  • new - Viking and DRC

I think Steinberg have said that they are working an AU presets ?

  • Animoog is the staple

New for me-Z3ta. Pretty sure it was my final major iOS synth to buy. Seems nice so far.

    Essentially identical as myself.

    Love them all.

Do you have any issues with the channels on Thor?

Meaning, Thor responds to all channels regardless of setting for me.

    Are you experiencing that?

This app is super comparable to Z3Ta in my opinion.

I loved Z3ta but it never evolved.

This app picks up where Z3ta left off as far as sound and quality. I also liked the power of the synth book app from Yamaha, it has hints of that as well or even a deep FM.

I cant get over DRC for this reason.

It gives some of the low down power dirty bomb basses BUT STILL GIVES HEAVENLY strings or pads.

That range is whay I need. It all about the least amount of apps for me.

I wish it had a build in recorder. Mainly because like Alchemy - you can make a song JUST USING DRC. No doubt.

In fact, after my dogs surgery tomorrow maybe I will do it and maybe post it.

Not seen that and I just did a quickie test in Cubasis: Thor midi channel 1 specified Cubasis as input. Laplace was on channel 2, both played their individual parts...no problems.

Agree with@RustiK about DRC. it has the sound...

Well dang, guess I'll spring for the full unlock. Haven't really messed with it yet. Good luck to your pup!

I’m waiting for someone to post —
    old: everything
    new: sunvox

(which of course isn’t new, so doesn’t seriously count)
(which I still don’t own on the iPad, but I’ve got it on the Macbook, to ignore).

    Wow..............(shakes head in disbelief)

And that's just for the iElectribe and IDS10 post.

Not even touching the other one.

  • For a lot of the iOS synths it's like 'new to me' big time; only been using iOS/Air 2/Auria as my main studio setup for a bit over a year.

    Old: iSEM & Cassini
New: Addictive Synth (like I said, never had it, very new to me)

Another one I'm seeing is for electric piano/Fender Rhodes instruments-

    Old: iLectric Piano (IK Multimedia)
    New: Neo-Soul Keys

Ever since that IAP deal NeoSoul Keys had going last year it has become my favorite Rhodes/Whurli app by far.

  • Drum jam
    Synthmaster player
    Patterning
    Yamaha Synth & dr pad
    Sunriser
    Animoog

I have too many apps.... But those are the ones I keep coming back to..
