How it all works

Hi Forum,

new to all of this and as it seems this is a helpful community :) , i want to sum up my understanding of "how it all works" with AUDIOBUS/AUM/ios music apps.

  1. Get some instruments
  2. Get AUDIOBUS
  3. Get AUM
  4. ?

First off, after collecting a few instruments (SMPLR; PATTERNING; VIRSYN TERA) i loaded them up into AUDIOBUS. They are the sound sources. Then i set up AUM as the destination. Within AUM, i added three tracks for the instruments, routed them to a mixbus which then runs through a fourth channel to the main outs.
Great. Easy.

But now i have a few questions on this.

  1. When i setup a latency for the instruments, do i set this up within the host (AUDIOBUS) and will - for example - AUM follow / overtake this latency setting?
  2. When saving the states of the plugins within AUDIOBUS, will ALL settings of ALL hosted apps be saved as well, or do i have to save settings within all hosted apps within the apps themselves?

I hope i can help future greenhorns (and myself  ) by starting this thread here.

Best,

Ronald D

  • Audiobus takes care of the latency settings in everything else,
If all apps in session support state saving, save with take a snapshot with all settings of all apps.

  • thanks, lala, for answering

so - am i missing something with patterning - or is patterning missing out on the "session support state saving"?

  • You can find which apps support state saving here....

    https://audiob.us/apps/capability/state/page/1-11

    Patterning does not.

Looks like patterning doesn't support state saving
You can look up what apps support it by going here
    https://audiob.us/apps/
    And press on state saving

Patterning seems to get away with it somehow, though. Probably due to being so well designed and brilliantly made! I've used it every single day, and honestly never noticed it lacked State Saving.

  • okay, to sum up @ now it would be:

! save your work within the apps themselves to be on the safe side. look up if an app supports state saving within audiobus. if not: write the developer with a smile about it...

I'm to lazy to do that, I don't use anything without state saving anymore. I hated it when my sessions didn't recreate.
I'm busy enough setting midi up each time ...

  • Don't rely too much on any kind of saving: save everywhere you can. Create your own, independent presets/patches library.

  • Yeah, good to know but PITA
