My main solo project at this time goes by the name of 'aphew goodman' - there's some play on words involved ('a few' morphed into 'aphew' - wow, who'd have thought that... :) ) and it is also related to my surname 'Joó' which is based on the Hungarian word 'jó' which translates to 'good' and we finally arrive at goodman. Simple as that. :)

The other project (a duo) is named Adori Office where 'adori' is 'iroda' backwards which is the Hungarian equivalent of 'office'.

My earliest solo monikers included 'meyoushe' and 'clipondildo'. The latter caused some controversy at a festival where I once played. :)

I don't think it's that controversial, but it's a lot to live up to on stage....

You still into Death/Thrash? I could never put thrash metal in my past. I love it toooooo much.

I am very much into Death, Death Core etc (whatever they decide to call the genres these days) more so than new-school Thrash. As for old-school Thrash I still whip out the old albums (or playlists these days) now and then for nostalgia trips, but I prefer heavy technical growly stuff these days, though I remember the old days fondly.

However, most people (IRL) think of me as a metal guitarist, and so I don't want to confuse them with Dark Ambient/Electronic stuff with whale sounds and beeps and bleeps, which is why I have separated out my new music under the AyePad artist name. :)

I started using the iPad for music only provisionally, tentatively, experimentally ... I wanted an alter ego to distinguish my iOS projects from my erstwhile projects/identity (at that time I would have called my "real" projects). I went into it largely as a joke.

I always found the names with "lady" in them somewhat annoying (Lady Gaga, Lady Antebellum, etc.). But we live in somewhat annoying times. To my surprise, no one had yet taken the name "Lady App-titude".

So now I am stuck with a somewhat annoying alter ego -- and so are you! :D Which I suppose makes me perfectly au courant with the somewhat annoying era of music in which we all find ourselves just now.

    =========================

In a parallel universe (pre/non-iOS) I am known as "Babz" -- which is just a common nickname for Barbara (except with a Z).

@High5denied @hellquist - we need to round up all the thrashers on this forum! My thrash metal roots include a lot of NWOBHM/European proto-thrash of the early 80s and the North American response (Anvil, Exciter, the "Big Four," Armored Saint, Jag Panzer, etc).

Still think High5denied is about the coolest username ever. And that @JohnnyGoodyear is a secret agent for HMSS, although I totally dig the cover story :sunglasses:

Mine is a play on words, kind of like @MusicInclusive's Interplekt moniker. Here's Wikipedia's entry for Eustress, and the term "eustressor" doesn't appear once, although it could:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eustress

My favorite author is Theodore Sturgeon (hence the band moniker "Sturgeon's Law") and he loved to play with words. I do to. I once needed a Hotmail account for business on very short notice and grabbed "eustressor" out of thin air, cause I didn't want to play the numbers game if a "real" name was taken ...

  • Don't really have a need for one yet, but it would be L.E.O.M. It's an acronym for a thing i found in a weird fringe science paper on the Internet. Thought it was a cool concept.

  • Chimp Spanner. I was 15 or 16 and setting up my first Soundclick account. I couldn't think of a username and had been listening to a lot of Foo Fighters. Monkey Wrench, Chimp Spanner. I figured "hey, nobody's gonna care".

And that's basically been my professional name ever since. Whoops.

Hey, Sting's named after a goofy sweater - no worries!

You could have had Marmoset Socket Set.

  • A long time ago in 2012, a forum was beginning for a new app called "Audiobus". One of the first threads was started by Sebastian and in it he detailed discussions between Michael and himself about various aspects of the app, including what they would name it. I remember several names were discussed, and one of them suggested Noisehorse. Obviously they ended up with Audiobus, but I really liked the Noisehorse name so I stole it for myself. I think I remember asking them if I could borrow their reject, but that was many apps ago, so I might not remember accurately.

I hear you. :) Soon after that event I changed the name to Cliponville OrkEstra. At some point a French girl from the small village of Cliponville in Normandy liked my page and later we even collaborated in one song. She said that she had originally hit 'like' only to see who the hell it was who'd decided to name his project after the (her words) 'meaningless, no-name place' she came from. Then she eventually grew to like my music. And to throw some light on the terrific story of why I picked Cliponville: because it had 'clipon' in it. Then I just swapped the dildo with ville and a legend never heard of before and ever since was born. :D

Good stuff! Similar to Armed Forces, Sanctuary, Metal Church........ Man don't get me started! Nuclear Assualt, Powermad, Exodus, Testament, Overkill, Pestilence, Obituary........

  • My last name is Ballinger which I altered to 'Ballicker' for an 'artist title,' because, as my father interprets, I want to fail, and an unsightly name is a good start towards failure.

Hah, you two might be interested in hearing my old band then. I uploaded my first bands first album to bandcamp a year or so ago, just to have it somewhere online and last.fm started buggering things up so I had to move it. Recorded -94 (regardless of what the date says on bandcamp). I was planning on uploading the other albums as well, but got side tracked. Should get on with it I guess. https://thrashinc-clench.bandcamp.com/releases :)

I linked to a few of your songs from my blog. I'm glad to hear the origins of your name, because I do not feel bad for laughing at it anymore. You are very prolific you put a lot of music out. Good job.

I've had a few; all in perpetual quasi-usage.

"The Unflattered" - started as a title for a line drawing I made, of an incredibly ungainly and pimply nerd type. The pocket protector type.

"G Lampa" - began as Glampa, as in "Glam Grandpa". I sent an email to a co-worker signed "Glampa", and the next time I saw him, he said "What was that? G Lampa? That shit is abstract!" I laughed, and kept it "G Lampa" evermore. That was 20 years ago.

"$5kLS" - pronounced "Skills". It's short for "five thousand dollar love seat", a phrase from KRS-One's "Outta Here".

Oh... And "Icepulse" is a variation on the title of a Cocteau Twins b-side, "Ice-Pulse".

  • "Iggy Azalea" was taken.

  • Just my initials. Sorta.

  • My last name is Finley. My band was "The Flying Finburgers." We were beyond awesome--in the wrong direction.

Mine was originally just my Xbox gamer tag. Was looking for something unique, so I would not have to have numbers in there...wanted something that was a bit hacker ish, and it just popped into my head. After a while it stuck and I just went with it.

Klaatu from the day the earth stood still, Ninja cause, well it just sort of worked.

  • I go by the name Momofugu for my photography and music projects. In Japanese, Chinese characters can have 2 or more possible pronunciations. So I looked for 2 characters that would represent my name but also have an alternative humorous reading and meaning. I came up with 杏魨. The first character, momo, means peach and the second is a variant way to write Fugu, or Pufferfish.
You can see the characters better here on my photography page:

My name and surname because I was born with it.

I go with this when it's my "normal" stuff, meaning my Pop/Rock/Indie 'verse/chorus' song material. I also use my initials for my business/publishing stuff, JRSIV Music Ltd., and for most forums and stuff.

I have a pseudonym just for experimental music or if I ever want to lay low to get an unbiased opinion from someone, but I haven't used it in a long time...

Got a message asking about my pseudonym for experimental projects, so it's Organ Loner, just a bad pun on the fact that the music is made alone in the studio by one guy and the organ bit is musical...or it could be another organ entirely, I don't know...

But since moving to iOS and it's music production apps as my main studio tool, I've been making more tracks & experiments like I'm sure most of us have experienced. The workflow is just so immediate and you can bring an iPad anywhere, pop in headphones and you're off.

So I'm going to do more stuff in that vein when I can and will post it to soundcloud.com/organloner , etc...be cool...

  • oddSTAR is a sideways/inverted reference to Lord of the Rings as it was my favorite story growing up and the term 'Evenstar' (as applied to Arwen) always stuck with me. I was going for something beautiful yet strange, I suppose.

Oh, just listened to Metal Church's first LP last night, and I've got a great Nuclear Assault story for you, Jason, haha!

Goatbreath = awesome album title. This is a very powerful slab of metal, well-played and well-produced. Perhaps a bit of Pantera influence I'm hearing? Thanks for sharing!

Unfortunately, all my early thrash demos either vanished (used to move a lot) or only exist on cassette tapes lurking in some secret basement box ... Guess I'll have to make some new thrash songs :sunglasses:

Um ... We now return you to the OP! Just found out there's a Soundclouder goes by the handle of DISTRESSOR! Clearly we were destined to be mortal enemies, yet one can't exist without the other ...
