What IAA synths are working reliably in Modstep for you?
Fans of modstep, which synths are you getting stable and predictable behavior from?
Comments
iSem, iM1, Galilleo and Gadget have been the ones I've been toying with most, although I only have about a week in on Modstep.
Mostly using the clock out to start up sequences in either Patterning or iElectribe, although have toyed with MIDI note out to iElectribe as well which seems to work fine.
Thanks! Yeah, Virsyn synths like Tera aren't behaving well.
Is iSEM worth it at $9.99 or wait for special again?
I think so. One of the best synths for iPad IMO.
Oh, and not necessarily iaa, but just took a spin sequencing my Sub37 with ModStep and mucking with some of the controls - filter cutoff and volume. Worked like a charm through my iConnect MIDI4+
I never load IAAs into Modstep. I start them, along with Modstep up in AudioBus. It's much more flexible and leverages state saving, app-switching, and AB Remote.
I had a really weird thing with Modstep yesterday though. Some (but not all) notes of certain patterns stopped showing up in the piano roll and step sequencer even thought they still played. Not sure if state-saving had anything to do with it, but they still didn't show up even when loading Modstep standalone. Maybe this is a known bug. I dunno.
Animoog works well
Is it a cc issue? I haven't tested cc stuff extensively
For straight up sequencing, the IAA stuff has really been sorted in the beta.
I just tested microTERA, Addictive, Cube, Poseidon, and Tera, running simultaneously-
Something I wouldn't ordinarily do, but I love Modstep and the Virsyn stuff, I was kinda wincing as I added the 5th synth fearing the worst, I half thought something would melt, these synths are big guns and have been weird in some hosts, even only 2 at a time. No problem at all. Again, this is the latest beta...
And as of the beta I haven't actually had bumps with any synths at all, and I've tried most of what I have including what I think of as the most formidable iOS synths, z3ta +, Alchemy, Mitosynth, Wavemapper, Wavegenerator, Unity, Nave, Crystal...
IceGear stuff had been problematic in IAA (in many hosts including Modstep, hanging notes especially) but again Marsenne, Laplace, and Cassini all run nicely side by side now in Modstep
IAA in Modstep is allowing me my preferred laptop workflow: a host sequencing multiple synths, clip launch style, for composition, then shipping multi stems to a linear DAW for finishing (either iOS or desktop). So no other stuff working in background...apropos of the OP, one upside to this in comparison to the Synths/Genome/AB/DAW-for-recording version of this workflow is that the few remaining instrument apps like Beathawk that are still "midi promiscuous" can be sequenced discretely (as if it had a channel of its own) alongside other apps that have their channels assignable. True also of Argon synth, which is a great match for Modstep, but not possible to sequence discretely along side other synths outside of IAA. Argon is a great flavor to play off of Icegears resonators...
Sorry, short answer: all
