Midi Guitar 2/ Auria Pro

Ok, here's what I'd like to do. I have my acoustic guitar running into input 1 of an iconnectaudio4 with my iPad pro. I'm looking to record the guitar into Auria Pro using midi guitar 2 with sampletank and/or any number of other synth apps. In midi guitar I want to have a mix of the natural guitar sound with the synth sounds and record it into Auria Pro. I'm just not sure how to make that happen. Do I create a midi track or an audio track (or both). I'm guessing that midi guitar creates Midi data for the synths but would you need an audio track for the natural guitar sound. I've tried both, but the only sound I'm getting (on the audio track) is the natural guitar (though very low in volume) I can't seem to get any of the midi guitar created synth sounds. What am I doing wrong?
I look forward to Midi guitar becoming audiobus compatible.

  • For the time being I don't think you can record the native MIDI Guitar synth sounds because it doesn't yet have IAA or Audiobus, so it's for playing only.

You can of course use MIDI Guitar to drive any number of IAA synths and record those.

I have your same interface, IPP, Auria Pro and almost all the plugins and plans to use my guitar as a controller for soft synths via Midi Guitar. For now it seems like a great setup and MG2 tracks really well at least with my electric guitar. Not sure how well it would track an electric.

BTW, how do you like your ICA4+? I just received mine and set it up yesterday. I got it going and it seems to work well and sound good. I am a little concerned at how many times I have to turn the rotary knob for volume / gain. It eventually gets louder/quieter but only after many many turns! Is yours like that too I wonder? Anyone else use an ICA4+ that could chime in?

Anyway good luck. I would love to hear what you come up with!!

  • @scadet I've had my ICA4 for about 6 weeks, and love it. I've experienced the same thing with the knob turns, but haven't used the knob much, opting to adjust levels in the iConnect iPad app. I always run my electric guitar in input one, and vocal mic in input 2, and haven't had to adjust input levels much once they were set.

As far as the volume control of the iconnect, that's pretty much how mine is as well. A lot of turns to increase and decrease the volume. Also when you first turn it on it seems to take a little while to kick in. Sometimes if I don't wait a few seconds, and you start turning the volume knob, all of a sudden the volume is up a lot higher than you want it.

As far as recording Midi Guitar into Auria Pro, I finally figured it out. I created a midi track which recorded the Midi Guitar controlled synth and an audio track which recorded the natural guitar sound. It worked pretty well.

  • OK, glad you figured it out and you are on your way. It reassuring to hear that your, and @Shaken&;Stirred 's Vol. knobs work the same as mine.
