Do you always update apps?

Do you always update apps or are you somewhat picky about which ones to update? I have always updated everything regardless, but lately, updates for programs I never use get skipped. It bugs me to see the little red circle though, and then I cave and update all. Just curious.

  • Always. Can't bear the little red circles. They taunt me.

  • Always, apps and iOS updates get applied the second they go live here. Never had any issues working that way, though I mainly stick to the larger developers that keep their apps up to date.

  • Always in the end, sooner or later I press the update all button by accident.

  • I resist, I resist...

    Yeah it's in a stupid place :p

  • not always, for example:i'll never update the vlc player app because it doesn't support AC3 anymore.

This really sucks, when I am in a place with really slow wi-fi. Takes for ever. Always hit by accident as well.

You would think the exit/bail out button would be there.

I usually do yes. There are two that i haven't updated ... DRC and drm1 for the known reasons.
No doubt I'll hit update all by mistake eventually.

  • Always. But I keep backup one or two previous ipa files, depending on the app.

Thinking about this makes you realise how "fragile" apps are especially from the smaller developers. What's to say they will continue to update update their app ad new versions of iOS are released ??? Your faveroute app could become obsolte over night

same. what is it about those red circles? I can't stand them there. Especially if the number gets over '1'!
I am living with one on my settings icon on my 4s and one on my appstore icon on my ipad. Very hard to ignore them.

  • Guessing these are in your home screen ....Move them onto another page so you don't have to look at them every time you look at your phone

Have to keep an eye on them to make sure the numbers don't grow past 1

  • For my "most used" apps, I'll usually wait a few days and check this forum to see if there are any reported bugs. But if not, I keep everything updated.

I did hold off for awhile after iOS 9.0 was released, when there was an issue with app updates freezing and not updating properly. This was causing me to reboot my device regularly, and sometimes having to delete and reinstall apps. That seems to have been fixed with 9.3.

  • Yes, with the exception of Beat Time.
I always fear that an update may disable its secret power.

  • If it's an app I'm using currently, I'll check here to make sure it's working well. If it's not a regularly used, I'll update it right away. Also if the devs are known to fix bugs quickly, I won't hesitate to update.

  • I have several iPads, so I can afford to use for testing everything as soon as it's updated. Will only update on my other ones once I have some level of comfort.

  • Not on air 2 8.4

Yes on air 2 9.3.1 except Anytune

I always backup to computer before an update so I have the IPA file just in case.

  • Anytune and Beat time. Proof that sometimes the past was a better place...

  • Yep @JohnnyGoodyear ...there are a few that need to be looked at closely before diving in. Bugs are certainly one reason, but loss of functionality is yet another. This forum is great, since someone is usually willing to take one for the team (me, in a few instances.)

  • I agree with @JohnnyGoodyear - the little red circles bug the shiz out of me too, but I don't keep enough apps around to get a lot of update notices - GB is the latest, and I have yet to figure the new stuff out!

  • I have got OCD with stuff too but from my experience with Android phones it pays to at least manually update your apps instead of doing the auto update thing.

Now with iOS experience for over a year I still do the one at a time, manual updates. After seeing the coast is clear and no app updates have hobbled an otherwise great app I update within a few days.

That's apps, cause like we talk about here, there are a few of us iOS 8 hold outs...so that red dot on the settings icon has been there a while now...be cool.

I love the red circles. They're like scars. They make me feel like an IOS baddie :D

It's all perspective these days.... :)

  • when your red circles are ovals for extra digits...

then you are a real baddie

  • No, You should back up your IOS device to a PC or MAC before you update any apps.
If something breaks you can always go back and install the older version of the app

  • For some reason I have a red dot with a three on it on the update icon..... But there is no apps waiting to be updated that I can see?

  • hm let's see... 137 apps waiting to be updated currently.
