The sampling shemozzle (Guy Raz Interview With Mark Ronson - 2014)
Hadn't head this before. Was driving back from dropping Mrs. Goodyear off at the airport and listened to this interview which chews on the sampling business. Nothing you haven't thought about before maybe (whatever side of the beatboxer you find yourself), but worth a listen if'n you find yourself driving back from the airport.

Not so bothered about the TED piece, but the interview's a little down and to the right.

Enjoyed reading his perspective and I respect his craft. I've written songs for 30+ years (I started young!) and have assimilated EDM and DJ culture in addition to rock, jazz, country, etc. I still say that a remix or mashup is more akin to seeing a great cover band than a band playing original material. Yes, the original material is probably derivative but there is a palpable difference at its core. I've done both and know the difference in my gut when I'm doing either.
Brian Eno should sample it, and make it into an album: "Music for driving back from the airport"
