Musician, artist, filmmaker Tony Conrad has died.

Man - I really liked that guy. I once got him to autograph the original Outside the Dream Syndicate LP. He asked me if I wanted to sell it. His sound always resonated deep within me. Very disturbed to see this news earlier today.

Sun Ra, now HE'S a guy I would have liked to have cooked dinner for. I wonder if he would have signed with his given name (Herman Poole Blount). This from his wiki entry: When his conscientious objector status was reaffirmed in February 1943, he was escorted to Pennsylvania. He did forestry work as assigned during the day and was allowed to play piano at night. Psychiatrists there described him as "a psychopathic personality [and] sexually perverted," but also as "a well-educated colored intellectual."

Witnessed dream syndicate performed by his good self & Faust in London some years back. One of the most intense things experienced.
I saw the Arkestra play several weeks ago. They are still going strong. I imagine that Sun Ra sends his approval from Saturn.
