How do I Grain Science?
I understand granular synthesis in theory, I'm having a hard time using this app to make melodic sounds, which I feel I should be able to do given that all the presets sound quite nice. Am I supposed to take crappy samples and use Grain Science to break them down and somehow make them sound good? Am I taking already melodic samples and doing something to make it even better? Do I need to keep bouncing things in and out? Any granular synthesis tips would be very welcome, I seem to have no idea how to get nice results.

I suppose it can do melodic, but it is really great at drone and soundscape type stuff. try using the arpeggiator, and lfo modulation on different knobs
Grainscience, yet another sleeper/gem iOS synth.
Here's a tutorial from the dev, very first tier in terms of iOS synth tutorials, on how to make a (fat) brass patch from init.
There's a few more from him and others on Grainscience, once you get into YT. Also good video from devs channel on Mitosynth, another favorite monster.
Interesting this one from a design viewpoint. Many pages to scroll through which usually leaves me with a headache, but the clarity of the layout makes it fun to use...
This explains pretty well how granular works and what to do with it
I like to do that kind of stuff with ipulsaret ...(grain science is a little long in the tooth)
I've gotten some nice melodic and rhythmic stuff out of Borderlands Granular
Thank you everybody! Your comments have been very helpful
