Waldorf Nave: Clicks and pops when using midi CC

edited June 2013 in General App Discussion

This may be an iPad 3 issue but is anyone else suffering from clicks and pops in the audio when they try to control modulation from an external controller?

I have problems with iOS synths, Sunrizer, iMini and others when using my Quneo, so I regularly filter out the controller data that I don't need using Midibridge. On Nave however even with just the modwheel on I get clicks. I've also tried my MPK mini and it has the same problems. I've rebooted the iPad and had Nave as the only App and the problem persists.

Is anyone else suffering from this or is it working fin, particularly on iPad 3's?

  • Hey Skipp,
I don't have problems on my Ipad 3. I'm using a Novation launchkey 61 and a Korg microkey 25 both directly plugged in my Ipad using a cck. That isn't very helpful, sorry.
Have you tried firing up audiobus first, forcing it to run on 512 frames?
    Good luck!

  • No clicks for me using iPad 2 and iRig Keys.

@Skipp, the iPad 3 is a curious beast. For example, I have problems with using Auria for recording in Audiobus that a few iPad 3 owners also have but many others don't, it's all very strange. I don't think the level of performance is entirely consistent with everyone's hardware, and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason behind who's affected. Your issue could be another symptom/quirk of the 3's inconsistency.

  • Thanks for the responses. I have no trouble with Auria and Nave is fine as long as I'm not sending CC messages to it, even with Audiobus. If others aren't having the same problem then maybe the sooner I get an iPad 5 the better :)

  • Hi @Skipp

The iPad 3 seems to be an odd guy. I had problems with pops and clicks in Beatmaker 2 that only a few other people had. Intua was very nice and an update was released to correct that.
I've just tested Nave in my iPad 3 with a KingKorg via CCK, mapping the controls. It worked fine, no noises. Maybe contacting Waldorf with your particular problem would be a good idea.

  • Thx @FRiberio. I think I'll try a clean reinstall first and if no change I'll contact Waldorf.

The Quneo might be the core of the problem as it spits out a lot of data and it can be a lot less smooth than using a fader or a pot. I'll need to attach the MPK mini first to make sure that the Quneo hasn't made things unstable before I test it.

  • I have a problem with my Quneo & Nave about Channel Poly Pressure....set X-Y on my pads dont works in Poly.... The Poly Pressure Work only with his Virtual keyboard......The same with Animoog......

  • @Sinapsya I presume that you get no audio artifacts when using Quneo to manipulate the Mod wheel?

I use X-Y on the pads to control X-Y on Animoog regularly (mono). It's a really intuitive way to design and play sounds.
