Easiest way to create MIDI files of fugue machine's output

I've tried recording midi notes into Auria. I can't get sync start to work, so the notes aren't quantised.

What's the quickest way to output a playhead to MIDI?

I've never exported midi files from gadget. How do you do it?

  • Or record fm into modstep. Dunno bout midi export tho

  • A modstep track (midi in and out 'modstep') pointing FugueMachine (virtual midi out) to Auria (midi in 'modstep') ?

It is super easy, you just go to the document icon and hit export midi file (or something to that effect). Each Gadget for the track then gets an individual midi file exported. You then need to copy them via iTunes or iFunBox on desktop, which I know for some is akin to a hot poker enema.

You can also mail it to yourself and then open in wherever you want (need internet...)

I'd love a direct open in button...

  • Those times when you need that hot poker enema emoji :p

Assuming you have Dropbox, just hit Gadget's file button at top left and Export MIDI to Dropbox. What you'll get is four midi tracks (or however many you set up). Then you can Open In them to AudioShare or a DAW and they should line up just fine.

Just remember to set up enough recording time in Gadget beforehand, as it will not record forever like a standard DAW— either give each row 16 bars and/or make lots of bars if you're going to improvise.

  • Oh yah, I forgot about dropbox and email options... the warm poker enemas..

Lots of rows, not bars. I must have had the window open for a while. You guys mostly beat me to the punch.

I record FM into Nanostudio. No timing restrictions and a simple single file MIDI export. There's no sync in NS so set the tempo to match FM and just start recording whenever. Then, edit the recorded clip, 'select all' and pull the first note back to 1:1.

From the Song Editor, tap Tools and select the MIDI File tab. Tap Export and select your MIDI file.

Then go to Manage, Email File, open the MIDI Files folder, select it, hit 'Attach' and send it to yourself.

You used to be able to cancel the sending, save as draft and then go and open the attachment from your drafts folder (without the need for an internet connection). I just tried that and I couldn't open the attachment.

  • @syrupcore send to yourself without entering the address, just cancel and save, greetings, crs

  • Cheers @crzycrs. That's what I did but the icon was no longer tappable (to do an Open In). Could only select it as text. This is still working for you?

The draft needs to be deleted and the file retrieved from the trash bin, where it is 'open in'-able, @syrupcore, cheers.

  • Thanks again but that didn't work either. It doesn't show up in my trash bin but that might be because my phone is hooked up to an exchange server for email. I dunno. No big deal—pretty much always have internet these days.

  • The piano roll in Auria is on par now with Nanostudio's, however I'm still trying to get a sort of integrated environment for midi recording situations like @johnfromberkeley suggested.
Sequencing sequencers. Drive Cream with ext. keyboard or FugueMachine, or midiSteps, xynth, firo etc. - and save the trigger notes in an extra track as well as the arps. Currently I want to utilize a combo of audiobus, aum, auria and modstep, and collect presets of mostused cases. Still investigating (:
