I've paid three times for Quicktime Pro. I use it every single day. Thanks Apple!

  • I saw this yesterday so uninstalled and today duet display won't connect, I know several DAWs use quicktime for decoding so do i jus need to install quicktime codecs for anything that relies on it?

Great. Now they have more time for iOS and OS X instead of investing time into windows. :)
QuickTime is such a piece of shit, it can't even play the same sample twice without missing the attack of the 2nd time playing on OS X.

  • iTunes next

  • Any recommendations on what to use to play MOV files on Windows then?

i use the combined community codec pack [cccp] - i use windows media player, and so far everything opens without issues with it installed. no idea if it works for all players, since i am a dumb ass when it comes to how these mamas work

    ^This too.

  • I thought iTunes on Windows relies on Quicktime? I am a Mac user, but I understood that Quicktime was automatically downloaded to one's Windows machine when installing iTunes. Maybe there is a difference between having a Quicktime codec installed vs the Quicktime Player?

  • Surely not, better go check!

Media Player Classic - Home Cinema (MPC-HC) or RealPlayer. MPC-HC is very good and stable and lightweight software in my opinion

  • Seems strange to me. There's no official Apple statement I can see that they've abandoned it, plus a lot of post production software on PC like After Effects need it.

Plus if they've abandoned it on PC why can you still download the installer from Apple?

  • ^Good points.

Whatever caused DD to stop working wasn't due to QT but i read that it's not possible to exploit it if you don't use the player or install any dodgy extensions, it's safe to leave it installed. If anyone knows for certain one or the other it's not let me know!
